Alcatel One Touch Idol 2 series
BARCELONA, Spain -- You'd be hard pressed to tell the Alcatel One Touch Idol 2 S apart from its twin the Idol 2. The only clue is at the bottom of the phone, where the speaker grilles are located -- the 2 S has more holes. And if you have the eyes of a hawk, the 7.4mm-thin 2 S is 0.1mm thicker.
That said, the Idol 2 S packs better specs that makes it feel more like a premium device than the Idol 2.
While they come with the same brushed metal design and similarly-sized 5-inch IPS display, the Idol 2 S packs a better HD resolution of 1,280x720-pixels. This means that unlike the Idol 2, everything looks crisp and sharp.
Powered by a quad-core 1.2GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 processor, the Idol 2 S is capable of LTE speeds for your 4G downloading needs.
The 8-megapixel camera was snappy, similar to my experience with the Idol 2, though I can't vouch for the quality of the images until we do a full review.
Running on Android 4.3, Alcatel One Touch has added some light skinning, but it appears very close to stock Android. Like the Idol 2, an Android 4.4 KitKat update is forthcoming.
Set to go on sale at the same time as the Idol 2, in the next few months, the Idol 2 S from Alcatel will cost 249 Euros ($340, £205). It will be available in Europe, the U.S. and China.
