"Unacceptable flaws for $360... Returned 2nd Day."
1.0 starson by dfeivelsonPros: Retina Display, Upgraded Camera / Video Recording, LED Flash/Light, Slightly Faster than 3GS
Cons: Reception issue is unforgivable and even with a case it still drops when you hold the phone in your hand, yellow spot on my retina display, bulky feel (the rounded edges of the 2G, 3G and 3GS are definetaly better in my opinion).
Summary: I have been a happy iPhone customer since the very first model, and have purchased each unit within weeks of it's release (if not the same day) except for the iPhone 4 in which I waited a couple months before I said, "I'll give it a shot for the new camera, facetime, and the retina display despite the antenna issue since I've always used a case on every other model, and I'm getting a free case that will fix the problem."
Well I was pretty impressed at first... the retina display really does look excellent, and the camera does take very nice, sharp, quality pictures and video, and the light/flash is a very cool feature too.
Later that night, I tested the reception issue by turning off WiFi, running Pandora Radio, and holding my hand over the bottom left hand side of the phone like you're NOT supposed to, and sure enough, Pandora cut out, and the song continued to play shortly after I removed my hand.... pretty big bummer. So even though it doesn't fit perfect, I put my original iPhone 2G Speck Case on it (which I've used for both the 3G and 3GS with no problems), and my heart sank when the bars started to slowly drop one by one when holding the phone in my hand with the case on.
So I did the same test with Pandora with the case on, and although it didn't cut out, it still seemed to load songs slower, but like a sucker, I still decided that I was going to keep the phone in hopes that the new case that Apple was going to send me for free would do the trick (by the way, I like how Apple wasn't going to ship my free case until late September... well after the 30 day return period).
Well the next and second day I owned it, I was looking at a PDF in iBooks, and noticed a little yellow spot on the lower left corner of the screen. At first I thought it was part of iBooks, but then I realized it's one of those yellow spots people have been complaining about.
That was the last straw... I took the phone back to the Apple Store within a couple hours and then had to drive to AT&T also to have them reactiviate my good ol' 3GS to boot. Not only that, but when I went in to Apple to return the phone, they didn't even bother to ask why I was returning it (but I let them know anyway), and didn't even apologize for the inconvenience when I did. At least they gave me a free SIM card to take to AT&T because I guess they can't use the old one... who knows?
All in all, Apple has left a very bad taste in my mouth with this iPhone 4 release. In my opinion, it is definately worth waiting until they come out with a new design or go with the 3GS. The 3GS is a solid unit, so stick with it if you already have it, and if you're considering an iPhone 4, go with the 3GS until they fix the 4 or redesign a completely new one.
By the way CNET... you're text boxes for typing these reviews SUCKS!!!

I figure when millions of phones are produced, there will be some faulty products and it sounds like you got one. I may be the exception to the rule, as I have no negative issues at all. I would be mad also if I had your experience. Mine has been the exact opposite of yours. I am still trying to make it fail with deathgrip, etc, but all has been great. I may just be lucky but I would say that it is worth another try. I am sure Apple will come out with something smaller and better soon. That is my luck. So far my Iphone 4 has been stellar. I hope you have better luck next time.
