"Doesn't deliver on all the hype"
3.0 starson by andiamo71Pros: faster processor (sorely needed), more memory
Cons: what's that yellow hue on the left side of the screen? itunes is totally buggy, non-functional at times with update. Organizing into folders is a disaster with that ridiculous dragging that doesnt work. multitasking is not all its cracked up to be.
Summary: Being a big iphone fan, I was surprised at how this phone did little to 'wow' me. It's not the be all-end all it was hyped to be. Sure, it's much faster than my old 3G, but that seems to be the only bright spot. To tell you the truth, the design is not so fantastic, and now it feels more 'squarish' in my pocket, whereas my old 3G felt more natural. All of a sudden, the screen appears smaller than it should be. Yes, I realize its the same size, and the phone itself is just more streamlined, but I would have preferred they kept the same size and increased screen real estate. There's also a very slight yellowish hue that I noticed running down the left side of the screen, culminating in a yellowish dot in the lower left corner. I've heard other people have this issue also. Reception is no change. I get dropped calls in the same spots driving as I did before, even though I put the phone down upright while driving..so the new antenna seems to be more style than substance. Yes, the screen seems a bit brighter, but I don't see so much of a 'startling' difference in quality. It's definitely not like going from an analog TV to high def...put it to you that way. My friend has a Sprint EVO, and not only is the screen noticeably much larger (fits in my pocket fine also), but the detail and clarity just blew away my 4G side by side...you should do the comparison for yourself if you can. Many of my old apps are not ready for 4G yet, so I'm stuck waiting for them to be updated. I have to admit...Apple released a product that's not quite ready for prime time...along with a version of itunes that is very buggy. I'd actually consider an Android phone, which already has all of the 4G's features and then some. At&t's quality, and that ridiculous 'tiered' data pricing makes you apprehensive to use the data the way you may like, which sort of defeats the purpose of owning a smartphone when you think about it. This is my honest, first impressions of the phone. Loved my 3G...just 'like' the 4G. i could be swayed to switch, which I never thought I'd ever consider. Make your own decision, but don't do it based on hype. Weigh your options carefully, and good luck!

If you call AT&T you would be surprised how little data you use (in most cases). I use mine a lot on youtube, email, etc, and called them to compare plans. Since I am a longtime user of the iPhone, I still get unlimited data, but the rep actually suggested I go do a cheaper plan based upon my usage. I stayed at unlimited anyway. For me it does deliver on all the hype and does not deliver on all the "anti-hype" I use a PC so I am by no means biased or a fanboy, a word I recently learned. I also learned that online forums and the media can be very biased and incorrect. I also did an Evo comparison and although I did nothing from a technical standpoint, we both liked my phone better aesthetically. Hope this helps those shopping for phones and are on the fence.

The EVO ain't worth the hype: http://*******.com/2ejgam
If you can't see the difference in the iPhone 4's screen and your 3G my you need to see you eye doctor. -
Again bwgbear1....Just because you love your Iphone 4 so much doesn't mean that the rest of the world has to love it , remember the Iphone 4 has so many problems that have not been fixed , if your phone did not have the Yellow spots, or does not drop calls when you hold it like a phone should be hold , then you got lucky , but please understand the people that were not so lucky and ended up spending their hard earned Cash in something that does not work , a Retina Display is not enough to give this PHONE a good rating

I would argue that this post is not all encompassing. I have had 3 versions of the IPhone including the 4. So far this is by far the best. The screen is much much better than previous version though I agree it needs to be a bit larger. Just do a side by side comparison with other IPhones. There is absolutely no yellow hue on my 4. I have toyed around with some of my friends smartphones such as the Droid with Verizon. IPhone still takes it though the margin is growing smaller.

APPLE LOVERS ...... DONT YOU THINK THERE IS A REASON THAT THIS PIECE OF CRAP PHONE HAS 3.5 STARS ? WHAT ? YOU ARE GOING TO SAY THAT AAAALL THE PEOPLE COMPLAINING ABOUT THE IPHONE 4 DON'T REALLY HAVE IT ? ..... SAD , SO SAD

this is the most ridiculous review I've ever read for this device.. i doubt you own the iphone 4 (NOT "4G" - seriously, how do you name it incorrectly? it's on the box!), because otherwise you wouldn't even dare compare its screen with the EVO 4G's, because you'd know that it's lightyears ahead of any smartphone on the market. Your iTunes problems aren't problems with the software, it's the problem with your hardware most likely.
and if you had the 3G, then you had the opportunity to keep your unlimited data plan, so i'm not sure why you're complaining about tiered pricing..
i think before you decide to make (false) accusations and review a product, you should probably try and buy (and use) the product yourself.. -
After reading this review I question whether you actually own an iPhone.

This is a switch...iPhone descent....Well I own an EVO 4G and I buy cell phones to talk not compute, for Multimedia Apple "was" the best, but for me not holding steady phone calls was a deal breaker...not to mention I was a past AT&T customer when they boughtout Cellular 1. I won't go back, but offering a phone that cant make phone calls and people loving it had to wear off at some point. I have a EVO 4G and a Blue Ant T1 with text to voice and caller ID translation. I use pandora for music which isnt the best, but i can live with it. My calls are the best, and Spring has picked up its game a bit...trust me they were lagging for a while but they are moving up stronger. I think for the size and quality now the EVO 4G is the phone to have. When NYC gets 4G which I hear will happen in August I will see whats what. Video chat to anyone that has a video connnection is optimum with the EVO 4G. Come aboard to unlimited data, and unlimited pcs to any pcs, and 400 land line minutes for $79.00

Don't let itunes compatability hold you back- any songs and videos you can put on an iphone, you can place on an android phone
-
i would surprised if you have an IPhone 4 .....

Very helpful review. I'm torn between updating to the new iphone or switching to the evo 4. I have all of this apple stuff (songs, videos, ringtones, whathaveyou), so that is my only hesitation. If I bought an EVO, I'd have to buy an ipod touch because my current iphone can barely hold a charge now.
What's your thoughts? I have been all over the net trying to find honest reviews, and not some fanboy based reviews.
I love apple, but I think I may just use them for computers now.
Thank you for the honest review!
