  • "Phone? AT&T Business No Account Forget It"

    Cons: AT&T No Business Accounts

    Summary: Tried to activate online and have been on the phone 2 hours. AT&T (Cingular) will not let you move your phone and data plan if you are a BUSINESS customer...You HAVE to sign up for a personal account using your own ssn, credit, etc. Even though I already have a phone and data plan for the Blackberry as 6 others in the office. They admit this was not pre-advertised...What a rip.

    Phone is probably OK, status post 4 hours off and on phone with AT&T since last night, can't get my business plan transferred, need new Personal account, take phone back, 10% restrock charge, then calls from AT&T they can give me my number but it has to be a separate account seperate from Business, OK, they connect me, office is close at AT&T 3:00 PM in San Francisco, sorry but they are on the east coast, call back tomorrow. I am taking the phone back, not paying a restrocking fee, will notify AMEX of the scam between Iphone and ATT

    I understand your frustration, however AT&#38;T and Apple are not to blame for your situation. You and others can avoid future aggravation by reading about the product first. <br>You stated that you were not aware that you were required to ‘sign up for a personal account which required your social security number even though you had a business account’ and that ‘AT&#38;T admitted they did not pre advertise this requirement‘. <br><br>AT&#38;T &#38; Apple DID advertise this.<br>Every piece of literature I have on the iPhone list the ‘Terms and Conditions’ for service. <br>The very first sentence reads ‘The purchase of an iPhone does not guarantee service with AT&#38;T’. The next sentence states ‘A valid social security number and credit check is required to obtain service’.<br><br>AT&#38;T printed this requirement on all of their iPhone related printed material. In addition, Apple went one step further and made this requirement known by printing it on all iPhone advertising material, showing it at the bottom of the screen on all iPhone commercials AND last but not least Apple made a video describing what is required, step by step, to receive iPhone service. This video, titled iPhone Activation &#38; Sync has been available on the Apple website for several months now.<br> <br>Requiring personal accounts is merely AT&#38;T’s way of protecting itself from the potential loss of thousands of dollars in the event that a corporate client were to go out of business or seek bankruptcy protection. <br><br>This policy makes prudent business sense considering the fact that AT&#38;T pumped $50 million into their network prior to the iPhone’s release. Someone has to pay for that and providing phone service to those that have excellent credit is one way of ensuring that happens.<br><br>Apple, unlike Microsoft, does not pull any punches. They are ALWAYS above board and they make everything clear up front. What they can’t do though is make you read the printed material or watch the videos. That is up to you!<br><br>Ignorance is bliss, right?<br><br>I would almost bet your a Windows guy.

    Can't you read the genious comments from Apple fanboys? You are supposed to review ONLY THE HARDWARE (as if you could use the iPhone without the AT&#38;T service). So now you know: you have to review it without even turning it on, because, remember, the OS is software. That's Apple fanboys' coherence and intelligence.

    Feel free to comment on whatever you like. Yes this is for a review of the product. However, the iPhone is a cell phone, so carrier service goes hand in hand with that. If you have activation problems or the service is lousy then that does relate to the iPhone itself. Any cell phone is as only as good as the carrier. When a person has activation problems the phone is a useless paper weight. With all of that said, the iPhone is not practical for business use. I think business customers are better off with their Blackberries and Palms.

    Cnet readers drive me nuts with their opinions about something they haven't even bought or, like this guy, is bashing a product for something the phone didn't do...kind of like saying your car is a piece of junk because the finance company made a mistake on your statement.<br><br>Let's all try to give usable commentary for others by only commenting on the actually hardware performance and, as silly as it sounds, if you actually own it.

    Uhh... you are not really pointing out everything out correctly. I get 20 % off from my bill and I will lose my discount as soon as I activate my iphone. But, this is something that has been annouced like months ago... <br>You can't blame AT&#38;T service for this... It's apple who took the control of everything. <br>Business account? How much u pay a month? <br>There are people out there who pay almost nothing for like 2000 minutes, unlimited text messaging, and unlimited data. AT&#38;T and Apple will not let you take account like that with an iphone. <br><br>At the end, you get what you pay for, Period. You want a discount? Get a job at apple.

    I definitely waited the two hours at 6 AM PDT this morning which wasn't good. But when I got through the process was relatively painless to get it changed and at this point I can't tell any difference in the plan they assigned me to, I am however a single person corporate customer. I am however still waiting for the confirmation AT&#38;T to go through. With no expectation other than what the AT&#38;T representative said on the phone expect at least 45 minutes for the activation to go through.

    here we go AT&#38;T... back to the same old BAD service..... it's been over 10 hrs and STILL i have NO SERVICE... TRYING to activate the Iphone, now my old CINGULAR phone is not working.... so, I have NO service at all.....
