I've messed with quite a few crackberry's. In reality color is a waste, if you want color, go get a palm and enjoy your magnificent hour of use. Everything people say about this product is true. Unfortunately the Price is a bit too steep, and the internet connection bugs otu and loses connection after a short while making you shut-down and restart it to regain the connection. Beyond that its a wonderful device, just not sure that It is worth quite what they charge

No, color!! So what!. Keyboard is fine, works great. Only thing I would change is the earbud, offering a few buds since everyones ear is a little different. This device will grow on you.

Not fully wireless yetby - November 21, 2002
Pros:
Cons:
Review:
Having rejected PDAs for my employer's organisation due to their requirement for desktop-based synchronisation, or at best port server-side syncing, the BlackBerry is superficially attractive. The fact it still requires a cut-down version of Puma's Intellisync is a let-down. However, it appears that the BlackBerry Enterprise Server will move to a fully wireless model over the next six months, at which point this device will start to rock. The push model is, however, far better than the PDA dial-up or demand method. True smartphones could beat the BlackBerry, but the MS Stinger/ Symbian war is holding things back. Better screens and integration with Citrix and other enterprise apps could make this invaluable, as will tri-band 1900MHz. Let's hope the telcos get their GPRS roaming agreements sorted. As a Notes client, it's superb.

GPRS is DOA.by - June 8, 2002

Review:
I really don?t get most of the comments here posted here about this device. Looks like most reviewers haven?t even used any model Blackberry yet. I?ve owned several 5810s, 850s, 950s and 957s and have worked for/with several BB integrators. RIM Blackberry changes the way you work. Yes RIM has made the best available wireless handheld to date. Crackberry (try one and you're hooked) rules simply because 90% of business computer use is email and RIM has the best desktop, internet and server email integrations available. (yes they are different animals so be sure of what you are looking to buy) Color screens, browsers and the rest have all been discussed to death and overall are a total waste of time on handhelds in terms of usefulness and battery consumption. Palm, Handspring, iPaq etc are truly not competitors here and should really be considered in totally different categories. (for now) In my estimation BB is starting to change the way the world does business in a way not seen since the introduction of the PC. (too bad rim is such a terrible company to do business with) Enough praise now to why you?re here: The 5810 does have some marked improvements over its older RIM brothers but lacks in one main area, its supported wireless network. As anyone who has ever owned a cell phone can tell you, a device is only as good as its carrier. In the US GSM and GPRS are just not available outside of a few major urban locations and sketchy in those as well. By contrast Mobitex (the network most of the other sold RIM devices sit on) is the oldest wireless network in the country and is virtually everywhere. It will be a while yet before GPRS is deployed to a great enough extent to make it a useful network. GSM/GPRS is nowhere and Mobitex is everywhere. Buy a 957 and a separate cell phone if you want a very mobile solution and a total change in lifestyle. Buy a 5810 if you want the latest and greatest, feature packed, useless toy. (at least for now)

Everything you need??by - April 9, 2002
Pros:

Review:
I think RIM is on the right track with the transition to GSM/GPRS and Java - but I really question whether it was a smart move to leave out(once again) expansion like an SD card slot. That slot would be great for additional storage (especially since there will be lots of J2ME apps ported to the BB) - but more importantly, for plugging in a Bluetooth module (for use with a wireless earbud, synchronizing with a PC, etc.) or an 802.11b module for when you're in the office. Connected in every way - not just via GPRS/GSM

This is a great improvement to the popular Blackberry 957 now that the fact that it has a phone and new email options. Also the Java 2 microedition processer is a great improvement than the Matrx one used by the 957. This info dervice is great now that you can use the other functions on your Blackberry while you are on the phone(too bad you can only communicate with the jack)I think that overall, all the functions are better than before, either that they have been improved or that they are completely new(such as the sms messenging). The only thing that I would recommend about the next Blackberry is that it should have a color screen, and a better keyboard( I know because I am a 957 user.)

A good rival to the treo although i think that the treo is more specifically designed for the consumer market than the Blackberry 5810, which is focused on the coroprate market. Besides, most blackberry users use them for busniess reasons. Not only that, the e-mail system in the Blackberry is better than any handheld in the world, including the Handspring Treo and the Palm i705.

Excellent Evolutionary step for RIMby - March 14, 2002
Pros:

This is a great "Next step" for RIM. Sales Professionals should be easily be able to see ROI very quickly. This is not for the casual PDA user. Buy a Palm if that's what you want to be. (Palms cost less, and you can get better games for them!) All the negative comments I have seen have to be by people who have never used a "CrackBerry" before.

The device is overpriced, unreliable and a pain to use. It resets it self on a regular basis. It constantly gets stuck on calls after the other person has already hung up and it wants you to hang up before it will allow you to use any functions. The roller navigation button is tacky and a pain to use. The GPRS web browsing is very poor and it constantly gives errors even in the middle of just reading a web page. I am very unimpressed.

Pros:

A color screen? not important, you go buy something with a color screen and enjoy your 3 hour use before charging. Too heavy? 4.7 ounces is heavy? A toy? Not if you're a mobile professional. Think of it this way, if your dealings with customers can make you @ least $50/month via email/phone then it's paid for itself. If you need to ask how important it is to always be connected to your email, this obviously isn't for you. If you want something to replace a pad of paper and a pen, get a PALM. If you want to take your office with you, get the BlackBerry....it's that simple.

We've been waitingby - March 8, 2002
Pros:
Cons:
Review:
After buying and ultimately being disappointed by PDAs for years, I discovered the BlackBerry 957 about a year and a half ago and have been hooked ever since. As an email solution, it dominates all other choices (I sold my Palm VII and Casio E-115 & modem on ebay). If the voice connectivity of the 5810 works half as well as the email connectivity of the 957, this product will be super. Use of an earbud shows typical RIM engineering elegance -- why be constrained by the legacy habit of holding the device to one's face? I can't wait to see whether this is finally the single-device PDA/Personal Communicator we've all been waiting for.

Closest To the Convergence that We All want. I have carried a bag full of shiny toys for years. What people do not think of is the space and expense of all the charging units sync cables car chargers emergency battery chargers, BlueTooth sleeves, Modem cards, Spare battery packs, Phone cables, Digital phone converters, Travel plug sets, PDA, Phone, Pager, Laptop, ETC, ETC. Get my point. This model though not a stylish as some of the individual examples far makes up for it by having it all and actually working. The interface issue of the phone feature burried two layers down in the UI can be fixed for the phone in the next build to put it on the front page. Now if only they can add a memory pack and mp3 player I'm set.
