Pros New Blackberry software; email; screen resolution; qwerty keypad; great signal and reception with great sound clarity; loud speakerphone; good trackpad; small and light
Cons somewhat small screen; small keyboard keys; email and web browsing are not as good as on the iPhone
Summary I have owned and used Blackberrys before. For a while I have been using my iPhone and recently added a second line for business and got the Bold 9700. This is one of the best Blackberrys available. THe screen is very bright. The new 5.0 software is responsive. The call quality is better than with my iPhone in terms of call quality and clarity. A few of the negatives, however, is that, for me, the keyboard is a bit cramped. It takes some getting used to since it's a bit small. The screen isn't that large as well as some of the newer smartphones like the iPhone. Also, web browsing is somewhat poor and emails are still better viewed on a device like the iPhone because the iPhone and the "Google" phones still display the email as if it was on your computer screen. The negatives are still not a reason not to like this phone. It's a great solid phone.
Pros I love the new smaller design.
The track pad works great.
5.0 OS is wonderful.
3.2 Megapixel camera is a nice improvement.
Great stereo quality.
Cons I know the device is smaller, which I like but the screen is significantly smaller than the Bold 9000.
Also, the web browser is HORRIBLE.
Summary I upgraded from a Bold 9000. I really like the 9700 much better. This phone is a great messaging device. However the web browsing experience is SO horrible and not improved whatsoever from the Bold 9000. I hope RIM fixes this so that they are on par with competition. Using 3rd party apps like Opera Mini don't make the web browsing experience any better. If RIM doesn't fix this I'm bouncing to the iPhone or Android.
"Best BB ever!"on by StogieC
Pros 3G, WiFi, GPS, its got it all. Camera works well, voice quality is outstanding, good range for bluetooth. Multi-tasking, iPhone can't do it but the Bold can. Long battery life.
Cons 256mb limit for installing programs. Most programs are way less than a MB so you can still install lots of apps but more device memory would be great, or let apps be installed on the SD card.
Summary This is a serious phone that can be customized to do what you want it to. I also have an iPhone and the BlackBerry Bold 9700 beats it hands-down. It does everything I ever wanted a phone/pda to do.
Pros Simultaneous voice and data like the previous bold are the only blackberry's that have it. It's great to still be able to recieve emails and chat on Blackberry messenger while on the phone.
Cons The browser experience is very week. They make the devices too tiny when they could focus on bigger screens. And youtube barely works on the m.youtube.com It's annoying to have to go to a pc each time to check a video link someone sends
Summary The bold didn?t get a great review from the WSJ? It?s due Nov. 27th, according to Wall Street Journal?s Katie Boehret, in this video review http://macspotlight.blogspot.com/2009/11/wall-street-journal-blackberry-bold.html
She wasn?t too shy with the review she ended of by saying ?But since many of the Bold 9700?s features are about the same as less-expensive BlackBerrys, it?s worth considering the Tour and Curve 8900 before you spend $200 on a device that no longer lives up to its bold name.?
Pros The phone came with good quality ear buds to make it easier to talk when driving.
Cons Freezes every 30 minutes and the only way to unfreeze is to pull the battery and reboot, which takes between 5-10 minutes. Trackpad button is slow to respond and difficult to control. Drops calls often, even in large cities with excellent 3G coverage
Summary Camera takes very subpar photo quality! Many photos are blurry or simply unclear.
Blackberries have not improved over time. While other mobile phone manufacturers have made smartphones easier to use, with greater functionality and better service, Blackberry has remained stagnant and stayed on the same level.
The only reason I have this phone is because it's a company phone that I'm forced to have. I'd much rather have any other smartphone than a Blackberry!!!
DON'T BUY A BLACKBERRY IF YOU HAVE A CHOICE!
