HTC Desire, one of the best android phones
Pros: 3.7 inch touch screen
highly customizable (7 home screens), folders, widgets etc
very FAST (1 GHZ Snapdragon)
android 2.1 (2.2 in uk)
integration with google apps (gmail, calendar, maps)
5 MBP cam, fm radio, wifi
htc sense
lots of RAM (576 MB)
Cons: Earpiece a little on the quiet side
No hdmi out (like Evo 4G etc)
Battery life (less than 24 hrs with medium usage)
Can't resync google accounts easily
low internal storage (~500 MB) - fixed with android 2.2 (install on SD)
no HD video - 2.2 fix
Everything is very smooth and responsive on the phone.
The cons that effect me the most would be low internal storage - can't install tons of game (until android 2.2 update) or if you root your phone that won't be a problem.
Second, the earpiece is quiet and although I haven't had a real problem with that yet - I can foresee it possibly being annoying in the future.
Last - the battery life, although if you install advanced task killer and juice defender your battery should be fine for at least a day of heavy usage.
That being said, I would highly recommend this phone to anyone who wants an android phone and can't afford the nexus one without subsidy. Even if you can, this phone is certainly its equal if not better (higher RAM 576 versus 512 and sense UI) and minus the noise cancellation microphone.
It is also, in my opinion, equal if not better than the Iphone 4 and definitely better if you enjoy customizing and changing options on your phone! Once android 2.2 is out everywhere for this phone, I think the iphone 4 definitely loses. Beyond the evo 4g and galaxy S I would say this phone is one of the best speced one out there. It also has a smooth and fast user experience. In Canada, I think this is the best android phone on the market right now.
Hope this was helpful.

The best phone HTC have made to date!
Pros: Quick and powerful
Great Quality AMOLED screen
Dual touch gestures
Android OS, integrated with lots of G apps available for free on marketplace
Very good camera with flash. Soon to have 720p video recording in Android 2.2
Not extortionately priced
Cons: Not a lot of internal memory
Resource hungry OS, which consumes battery life rapidly
Tacky backing case
Loud speaker quite average
Could handle multitask switching better
After the disastrous launch of the iPhone 4G, and the over price predecessor, iPhone 3GS, I wanted to pursue a smartphone that not only was of equal calibre, but also good value for money, and has a well active support for applications. If you are also after this, I can promise you, this phone is for you!
Upon first impressions, the HTC Desire out of the box looks brilliantly jaw dropping, with it's subtle yet functional design. I was fortunate to be delivered the black version, which looks slick in comparison to the burgundy colour, and was wondering if it came from the same line as the DSi XL consoles into why those colour were chosen. Switching it on for the first time lit my eyes up, which I thought I would never do so soon after own the Blackberry Bold.
I had slight problems setting it up with the network for 3G use, but that was mostly to do with Oranges shortcomings and not understanding how the phone operates (3G automatically shut off when WiFi is activated to conserve battery), but otherwise, set up was seamless. With 7 home screens for app shortcuts and interfaces, intuitive navigation, excellent application support, and super fast responsiveness, I've found it quite easy to get used to using the Desire with my daily routine for planning, synchronising multiple email accounts, browsing the web with lite flash support, compiling a shopping list, music and games, checking the news... this list is immense, which replaces and exceeds my old Bold's duties. There are things I do miss, such as BB IM, the lack of a good loudspeaker, a qwerty keypad (in oppose to a touch qwerty), and most unforgivably, a phone button! Yes, it does show it on the home page, but being a phone first, it should have a dedicated button for quick access in my opinion.
The marketplace app store has plenty of apps, mostly free, available for download with ease. Even buying apps, and getting refunds are easily achieved, and although it doesn't have as much as the iTunes store, it is catching up rapidly. With the GPS, it comes with Google Maps, and the new Google Navigation, which works beautifully, and is free. Mind you, when the GPS or WiFi is active, the battery runs like a dog, and can soon deplete within a 100 mile journey. As it has the potential to pretty much be your pda for anything, and being of smartphone calibre, this was expected, but means you will need to get used to having multiple cables lying around at work, home and in the car. Also, what's annoying is that fact that it uses the new usb mini flat, so I will need to either use the adapter to micro, or replace my cables. Major pain.
The phone accepts mini SD storage cards, and comes with a 4GB to start you off. It comes with the HTC sync application for syncing your contacts and calendar entries with your computer, which isn't the greatest app in the world, but does the job without hijacking your phone, as does iTunes. You can use iTunes if you like, but I prefer managing my songs and vids manually, and this can easily be done. You will need an SD card, as the internal memory is less than adequate at 400MB, which is a shame, but it's not a huge draw back. Apps typically are small, and the SD card holds all my songs pictures and videos.
Overall, the HTC Desire for me is the best phone to date, and although it does have some slight draw backs, it 's strength far outnumbers it's weaknesses. Roll on HTC Desire HD!

Great phone, Highly customizable and really smart
Pros: Sense UI, Android core, screen, functionality, customization. This phone allows you to integrate your pc experience with your daily activities. Very nice user experience, specially if you're a Google user the integration is great with their services.
Cons: Price, sometimes hard to read against the sun. Resources consume battery and there's no decent task manager installed out of the box.
I believe I've becomed an HTC user after this phone. Loved it, expecting Android Froyo update with sense UI anxiously, for even better performance of the hardware.
Cheers!

HTC Desire is a perfect smartphone.. no need for more..
Pros: Actually almost everything..
Cons: The battery sucks! As they do with most smartphones.. and I think that's a big flaw! I use WiFi a lot and when... the battery only survives 5 hours max. And when I multitask it get's worse..
What can I say more... of course there are very small things that can be improved, but I had several other smartphones before this one but I must say I am totally 'hooked' on Android in combo with HTC, and especially with this model!

It's a nice phone with some issues that need fixing.
Pros: Great display, many apps and functions, fast processor and lots of stuff to compete with the other brands and models.
Cons: Problem with the Desire A8181 with S/V: 2.1 update 1-the opened apps are saved in the cache when using the back or home key, but they also remain active. And apps like the camera drain the whole battery, while the phone is sitting in your pocket.

Fantastic!
Pros: Great speed, customisable, beautiful display, the apps are getting better all the time.
Cons: Lack of a few apps that we can get on iphone, but many are becoming available. Battery limitations, but it's the same with any smartphone.
