Pros: Nice fast CPU. Driving directions app with Street View is really slick. Voice search is cool.

Cons: Screen smudges terribly and is pretty much unviewable outdoors. BIG, like carrying a brick. Flash implementation is a joke. Most pages either just show an hourglass, or a message that your browser isn't supported (i.e. Hulu).

Summary: Literally unusable outdoors due to poor quality screen. Most things that can be done with 1 click in WebOS take 2-3 clicks in Android. Pre's physical keyboard and wireless charging were immediately missed. Apps crash way more often than they do in WebOS. Can't combine E-mail inboxes into a single view like WebOS. Doesn't combine SMS and IM into a single view like WebOS. Calendar, e-mail, and SMS apps are uglier than WebOS. Notifications in WebOS actually show you useful information (e.g. the e-mail sender and subject line). Android notifications just show a small icon with no information, then you expand the notification area only to be told that you have some new e-mail, but you actually have to follow with yet another click to open the e-mail application to find out what they are! Android just feels like it was designed by engineers, while WebOS feels like it was designed by usability experts.

I cringed at the thought of going from this nice fast 1 GHZ CPU to my slow-ass 500 MHz Palm Pre, but found a patch to overclock my Pre to 800 MHz, and now it feels almost as fast as the EVO, and way more usable in general.

I'm going back to my Palm Pre after my 24 hr test drive with the HTC (see my review on here, green2u 8/4/10). Where can I get the patch to overclock my Pre to 800 MHZ?

Thank you so much for this great review. These were some things I was worried about even though I wanted to get the Evo 4g. I was also VERY concerned about battery life. Every time I have tried to get something different than a Palm...I end up coming right back. I have had many phones and the Pre is the best by far. Thanks for the review!!!!
