Pros build quality. genuine style (from microsoft?!?!). an antidote to death by minute app iconzzzzz snore
Cons All the major apps but still a lack of selection. This is minor though, because I have all the ones I use.
Summary I came to WP 7.5 from Android, and am on my second HTC. Thing is, in all other aspects of my tech life, I am apple through and through. Probably 15 in a row since 1991, including illogical but magnificent machines as the 20th Anniversary Mac! So, by all rights I should be another contented iPhone boy (I already have an iPad) but I am just boooooreeeeeed of the sight of iPhones. Given that my life is increasingly in the cloud anyhow, the fact that I now migrate between OSX on my Macbook Pro, Windows 7 (yuck) for work, my iPad and my WinPhone (I travel constantly and get my Outlook action mostly via mobile) is no big deal. Microsoft may have come to the party too late, but for what its worth, WP 7 is absolutely excellent - there is a sense of space to it, of the kind of design that iOS really lacks now (shurrrrly time for a biggie upgrade about 12 months ago?) and superb build quality from HTC as usual. I never thought this would happen, but I really like a microsoft product. Really, really like it. Well done Redmond because I am one tough sell when it comes to your stuff.
Pros Integrated Social Network
Built in office
Cons Lack of apps in the market
Summary The HTC Titan is definitely a phone that has not received the maketing and attention it deserves, this phone has completely taken me by surprise.. let me explain.
Having owned no less than 15 android phones and every generation iPhone that has came out including the new iPhone 4s.., the HTC Titan has completely made me question everything I thought I knew about a mobile phone. I used to think that the iPhone was unbeatable in every aspect and sure it has a lot going for it, big app store and easy sync with iTunes, but still ends up being the same old tiring IOS that they manage to give a little and keeps people hooked, (me included) . I have had nothing but sour experiences with android, always force closing issues, finding myself having to root my phones all the time to unlock better potential seems to be a hassle. This is where the game changer came in strong, I had no issues connecting to a wireless network as some have complained about. Bluetooth connectivity was superb with Ford's SYNC system, heck it even reads your messages.. this is something that the iPhone has never been able to do, in my experience anyways. Is this phone perfect? No, it still has some very minor flaws that I can live with, Pandora is not in the app market and very limited sources to buy cases and accessories from.
I have only had this phone for 2 days and have used it a lot and battery has held up fine, I have also managed to multi-task, while many will think that that processor will not be adequate, I will one to tell you that I was once like you.. all those worries have came to rest as this phone has definitely won my attention and respect. Give it a try.. it will forever change what you think about Windows phones..
Pros Screen - The screen is great, people complain about the pixel density, but it is not noticeable, and i have better eyes than most.
Speed - WAY faster than most phones, one button to take a pic. 2 clicks to scan a QR or UPC.
Cons Call Quality - People can't understand you.
Camera - takes more blurry pics than clear ones.
Lack of control - no way to disable the hepatic feedback, change if you use 2g 3g or 4g cellular
Summary the phone is great, and you can read about what others' have said about the greatness (it is all true)... the purpose of this review is to inform people of 2 major problems that people should know about.
I purchased 2 of these (the wife and i)upgrading from iPhone 3g for 1 cent each black Friday sale. These are the main issues i have run into that weren't really in reviews before i bought it.
The biggest one is the call quality. I believe it is the way the mic is lined up with the back case but it is unimaginably bad. You literally can't just talk into it, you either have to talk really loud or cup your hand in front of it or use a hands free (iPhone one works fine).
the second is the camera, the camera focus and speed is a bit lacking. Strangely the camera focuses fine, it just decides to unfocus, then actually take the shot 3 seconds later. this can be somewhat mitigated by half-pressing the camera button where it will focus without actually shooting. it really needs manual focus, but i think that is a WP7 issue.
That said, the phone in pretty and sleek, and really great.
Pros - Mango is a far better OS than Android, Apple, or BB
- The live tiles are great
- I can link up with my work MS Outlook
- Microsoft Voice
- The auto spell correct is outstanding
- Lots of other cool capabilities
Cons - the continual syncing drops every new number as a "Mobile" number. If I don't know my contact's acutal mobile phone #, there is no easy way to figure out the right number.
- no external memory.
Summary I got this phone on Cyber Monday after Thanksgiving from Best Buy because it was a free upgrade from my BB Bold. I thought I'd miss the buttons as I struggle typing on my wife's evo and friends' iphone, but the display buttons are bigger and the auto correct seems to be better at deciphering my intent. The voice call option is great -- not as good as the BB but pretty darn good. The camera is great. I can link up with my work's MS outlook which has drastically improved my capabilities. I can also quickly take a look at spreadsheets and MS Word Docs with no issues.
The phone feels great in my hand, and I can use the speaker phone very well as a hands free option in the car. My contacts say there is minimal degradation. The bing maps is solid but not as good as google maps. Instead of giving voice prompts for upcoming turns it only makes a noise after you've made the turn. And my status "blip" seems to trail the car by a few seconds. I wish they'd fix that. I've missed some turns in unfamiliar places.
Zune is very good and easy to use. I wish I could set songs from my collection as my alarm like I could with my BB so I had to find an app. Not as good, but doable.
The live tiles platform is awesome. The music recognition program is great. Microsoft voice is not as good as Siri but it's very useful.
The screen is huge and my kids love plaing the xbox games. I can watch movies using my netflix app and there are no problems.
The major downside is a lack of an external memory drive. I'd really like to be able to use my SD to swap between my phone, tablet, and wife's phone. I fear that as time goes on I'll wish I had more media memory capability.
I've had no problem finding plenty of apps that are helpful to use as well as apps that waste my time.
I highly recommend all folks looking for a new phone to consider a Windows Phone. It is really good.
"Very Good Phone!"on by blwilt
Pros There are alot of pros to this phone.
Very smooth operating system
Large beautiful screen
Cons The only con I would say is that the Power button is recessed and the camera button is easy to push if you are holding it with one hand.
Summary I got the phone 2 days ago and have been overall completely satisified with the phone.
My hands are not huge so the phone can be a little hard to use withone hand, but with the speech recognition I am able to text, make calls and search for something over the internet with my voice, just by holding down the windows key for a short time.
The battery is what I expected not completely horrible, but wont last a full day with a lot of use. I will have to say that it is better than my iPhone 3GS.
I have had a Samsung Blackjack, iPhone, Samsung Captivate (Android Powered) and 2 different Blackberrys and overall my own personal opinion is that this phone beat all but the iPhone in where it stands right up there.
I love the live tiles. Everything in this operating system moves so fluidly.
I also love the fact that I can change the battery if mine goes bad. Of course everyone knows you could not do that in the iPhone.
Despite the limitation of the apps it does everything that I had wanted it to do and more.
Overall I love the phone and am very satisified with my choice.
