"Cnet rated this less than others?? huh??"4.5 starson by typicalhero
Pros: The fit, finish, brains and brawn.
With WM6.1 customizations (apps) are endless.
The smooth, spring loaded slide out keyboard is note worthy.
The screen is utterly beautiful.
Touch Flo3D is a great start to a finger friendlier WM.
Cons: It can LAG lag lag!
The rest of WM beyond TF3D is still stylus necessary. (although system tweaks help)
Screen will scratch, be careful.
Constant soft reset from Opera Mobile, why does it freeze so much? grr
Camera design is odd to say the least.
Summary: Ive been a user of a few different OS's from different carriers and Ive always loved Windows Mobile. Its issues with stability are a big price to pay for Windows on a mobile phone, but overall worth it. This phone is THE best WM phone on the market right now and may hold that crown for a while, at least until HTC and Microsoft work the bugs out.Im going through all the cell phone reviews and ratings and am bewildered as to how Cnet decides on the stars. Some phones with so much less to offer have scored higher than this phone... why? Not even sure I can trust Cnet with their star ratings anymore. I guess I just don't understand their rating system. Its a shame really.
The design of this phone is beautiful, feels great to hold and not at all too big. Why is everyone so stuck on making technology smaller and smaller, are our jeans getting tighter and tigher, is there no more room to squeeze in a mini computer? The sacrafice of size for a wonderful full qwerty keyboard is welcome, it even comes with a very satisfying spring to pull it open and shut. I like those little touches.
One thing I didnt like at all was the cheap hard keys on the bottom of the face, why? What happened to the design here? Was it just laziness? The buttons are riduculous, plastic, cheap, lose feeling, its incredibly frustrating to see that they let this pass through quality testing. There are some parts to the battery cover that squeek and feel cheap too, very dissappointing, but doesn't ruin the overall beauty in sight, sound and touch that the phone delivers.
Opera Mobile is a fantastic web browsing experience, very smooth and user friendly. I can't wait for updates, bug fixes and better usability from the later versions, but so far so good. One thing... one pretty major thing... it crashes a lot. Websites just freeze and the phone follows quickly, requiring a soft reset... sigh, frustrating. But so much better than Internet Explorer.
Now to go back to the headline of this review... Cnet rated this phone less than the Instinct??? Huh? Something went terribly wrong at headquarters. Its comparable to the best of the best, at least comparable, give us that much. Come on.
Overall, I like this phone a lot. Its something real special and definately worth the buy if you like style and technology rolled up into something a little bit different and a lot more useful than anything else out there.
