Summary First and foremost, CNET knocked hard on this phone for very poor call quality. What were they talking about? I, like all of us, have owned SEVERAL phones over the past decade. I find the call quality to be on the good side, actually. Not fair, not average or passable, but actually quite good. I have no idea what CNET was talking about! My findings include using the handset as well as either of my bluetooth headsets.
This Huawei is my first android phone and I really like it. The OS integrates so seamlessly with Google and is quite pleasant to use. Android just seems to have been designed in an intuitive way and that reveals itself the more you play with the phone. Oh and the android market is really fantastic!
I like the big screen and resolution. Having 9 desktops is fantastic. It gives you quick access to very many things that you may want to use on a frequent basis. There are cool widgets you can put on the desktop for things like facebook, etc. Those widgets are cool in that they allow you to see constant updates, but beware - they can be battery drainers.
I, for the most part am quite pleased with the touch screen on this device. One wish would be the ability to calibrate the screen. I have searched forums and on the sparsely worded Huawei documentation and there does not appear to be a way to calibrate the screen. Which leads me to one of the cons I listed for the phone, the screen will sometimes go absolutely haywire. It just freaks out and you can't do much with it. I have not yet been able to reproduce the circumstances that will cause it to happen, but it's happened to me about 5 times in the 2+ weeks that I've owned the device. It never lasts more than 3-5 minutes, so I just ride it out. A positive of this screen is that it allows the use of the swype keyboard. It took me a few tries to get acclimated, but once I did I've become a huge fan of Swype. It's easy, fun, cool, customizable, and I quickly decided it was way better than typing on a small touch screen keyboard.
I also love the fact that this phone comes with a trackball. There are times when a touch screen simply does not cut it and in those times it's great to have another method of pointer control. I personally have found the Ascend's trackball to be spot on.
There are some pain points associated with using MetroPCS. I sometimes don't get txt messages, or others don't get texts I've sent. Some of my e-mail messages sent from the device don't get delivered. Sometimes calls go straight to voice mail even though I've got the phone with me and have good signal at the time. And they don't have 4G in my area yet. Metro is going straight from 1x to 4G. The Huawei Ascend, of course, is not a 4G phone, but I'm hoping for faster data speeds once they go to 4G. But hey, you get what you pay for. My bill, including data plan, insurance, and taxes and fees will be $54, like $50/month less than I was paying Verizon for my crackberry.
I'm definitely a fanboy for the Ascend and would recommend it to anyone that would listen.
Pros clear crisp screen
Cons THE screen orientation can be laggy sometimes but what the heck who cares.
the screen can be a touch oversensitive DOESNT GET ENOUGH PR !!! SUCH A GREAT PHONE WITH BETTER ADVERTISING THEY WOULD BE AT SERIOUS COMPETITION WITH MANY OTHERPHONES
Summary OMG! This phone offers everything! The best inexpensive phone out there even better then some more pricey ones too!! I'm a huge GOOGLE fan ! I was a bit worried I would take me a while to understand it but the phone did everyting for me!! ANDROID os is AWESOME! I am an euntrapaneur that lives pretty quick in NYC and time is always of the essence!!! This phone is MY NEW assistant! This phone and brand is a classic example of how thoughtless people can be. Advertising and marketing is why some phones are considered "better" not actual QUALITY and technology! If you are in need of a smartphone and don't get on a plane often U R GOOD!! realistically when the hell do I ever leave ny? and metro extends into all the states i do travel so Im not worried other than that you get EVERYTHING and more for half the price. WHO EVER CHOOSES AN IPHONE OVER THIS PHONE IS UNINFORMED. ON METRO PCS ITS BETTER THAN THE LG OPTIMUS M ( THE ONLY BIG DIFF IS THE LG RUNS ANDROID 2.2 INSTEAD OF 2.1) GET THIS PHONE! ITS THE BEST PHONE! LOVE IT LOVE IT LOVE IT

"WORST PHONE EVER"on by shaaybaay
Pros The phone works good for maybe the first month or twoo. after that is seriously sucks
Cons freezes everyday, turns off out of no where, internet sucks, supper supper slow, apps never work right, the messaging is all messed up, poor video and pics, will just go crazzy out of no where. and the list goes on
Summary this phone is horrible. i wouldn't even give it 1 star. I had 2 phones that were this kind and both sucked and did the same thing. i also have A LOT of friends with this same exact phone and they all HATE it total waste if money. i would go with a normal phone that gets internet and no smart phones. they are not worth your time. i wanted to throw my phone at the wall everyday.
Pros Android apps
Cons Battery life doesn't make it worth purchasing the phone.
Summary I sure don't get much use of the unlimited service with this phone on the charger most of the time.
