Pros *Both a touch screen and a slider.
*Touch screen pretty accurate, usually.
*Good call quality.
*The transition from screen to screen is smooth.
*Can use the phone when closed or open.
*After a while you appreciate the touch screen
Cons *With slider closed, the screen lock activates in a very short time.
*Scrolling through the phone lists can be challenging.
*Display can be difficult to see in direct sunlight.
*There is no gradual screen brightness.
Summary This is probably one of the best phones I have had in years. The phone feels pretty solid, the call quality is very good, the touch screen is smooth and handy. The battery life could be longer, sending texts seems to have a detrimental effect on battery life.
The phone comes with a stylus that is loose or can be attached by a string. The stylus is handy but looks very... well, it is ok on your sister's phone. I have had the phone for about a year and do pretty well without the stylus, however, scrolling through the phone list can be a trying experience. There is a scroll bar on the side but it is TINY; it is even small for the stylus. You can scroll by doing a sweeping motion on the contacts which actually works, however, there are two ways to do it; a "4 contact" scroll and a "10 or more contact" scroll. Here is the issue, when I try to scroll only four contacts, half the time I scroll a lot more than that. I have still not quite mastered the scrolling technique. However, I tend to just type the name in and pull it up that way.
I know that my cons outnumber the pros, but don't let that fool you; This is a pretty good phone. I don't multi-media at all so as to its capabilities I really don't know. The one time I used the GPS it worked pretty well.
I recommend this phone and I think most people will like it. Initially I was not completely sold on the touchscreen functionality, but after having one, it is the future of phones; it truly makes the phone that much easier to use.
Pros It worked...initially.
Cons This phone is not laid-out-well. Hard to navigate. Then it started freezing up, so I would have to turnit off and on again. Then, it started to misnavigate from the touch screen and shortly thereafter, began to fail to take a charge.
Summary I took it into Alltel. They messed around with the charging port, declared it was messed up and sent it off for a replacement. It came. This Glimmer was so misaligned on the touchscreen that it was unusable. So, then they sent me another one, which did work. Saturday, they sent me my original phone back with permanent marker all over the inner ID tags...and a send back the loaner phone note. It was deemed to be "damaged". Hello, Alltel...YOU guys messed around with the port! And now, the best Alltel can sy is, "Sorry. I can see you are upset. There's nothing we can do."
Pros Interface is quick, touchscreen is very responsive, screen quality is spectacular, call quality is great
Cons Dialed-down web browser, no QWERTY option on touchscreen, no IM apps
Summary I don't usually submit reviews, but I felt I should set the record straight on the LG Glimmer. The reviews (by C|Net and users) above really nail the pros and cons of this phone. However, the most often complained about feature -the ascending ringer- HAS BEEN FIXED.
In a software update, available as of June 22, fixes the issue where the ringer takes too long to reach full volume. In this new firmware, the ringer (still) ascends from zero-to-full volume, but in about three seconds. As far as I am concerned, this completely solves this issue.
Other new features in the firmware update are:
(1) A new "chat" interface for text-messages, where texts between you and someone else are shown as a thread, one message after the other, in order received/sent.
(2) Improved thumbnail rendering. The old issue of slow-loading image thumbnails in the image viewer has been much improved.
This firmware update, IMO solves many of the problems people have complained about. To check your phone for update (on Alltel), follow these instructions:
1. Navigate to the main menu-> settings tab-> Phone information-> Version
2. If your version does not end in "06" proceed to step three. If it does, you're already updated
3. Hit the Back key, then select "Software Update," then "Check for Update." After which, the update will download, then prompt you to install.
All in all, this is a fantastic phone, albeit with a few flaws. With a better browser and a QWERTY option, this would be an instant 10/10. The IM apps are supposedly on the way, so here's hoping. Highly recommend- 9/10
"Awesome phone"on by raymoondo
Pros fast and elegeant touch screen, 2 megapixel camera/vid, bright and colorful screen, good call quality
Cons spent WAY too much for it, could've came with a PC usb data cable for music transfer
Summary I just got this phone and so far I love it. It looks very nice all over. The touch screen is vibrant and colorful and responds very quickly. The camera takes excellent pics and video. It has one of the nicest cameras in a phone that I have ever seen. Although it has an internal antenna, it has crystal clear voice quality. I really like it, but it was WAY to expensive. In the store it was $250 already including the mail-in-rebate! Also, I wish this phone would've came with a PC usb data cable and not just the usb AC Adapter for charging.
NOTE: for those who have had problems with the ascending ringer, go to phone information, software updates, then check for updates. Once it finds it, which may take a little while, it will update it for you. This will solve that ringer problem, plus it will install a chat feature. I did it and it worked!
Pros EXCELLENT camera functionality, Creative interface, multitask music function, flash
Cons Only thing i can say is the web browser, but the mobile web browser keeps u from paying the data plan!
Summary I bought this phone off of Ebay for $325. All I can say was that it was a good investment. Overall the phone is pretty unlocked (except for the rumors of the ringtones which i haven't tested yet =] I'll get back on that). Overall it is loaded with extra features.. such as an excellent video player (double-click full screen) as well as the same thing for the picture viewer, you can literally drag the picture around with you stylus which makes a very effective photo viewer.
Price-(Decent) Only costs $130 including plan.. which surpasses the iphone and voyager price. If your looking for a sturdy high end phone, this is well worth it.
Music- (Nice but basic) Not like the extravagant iPhone or anything, but still nice enough with all the features. One very likeable beature is the background music mode. This lets you do almost everything (except calling and video playback) while listening to music. It is a great fun feature to have and it does not take up that much battery life IF you have headphones.
Keyboards-(Nice choice between two) I really like having the option to use the on-screen or tangible keyboard. Some people think itz stupid, but think about it. If you let someone else use ur phone, they most likely will not know how to operate the touch screen, sooo all you have to do is slide the phone and BAM you have a standard keyboard to go bye. There is also a setting where you can change how you end or answer a call such as sliding the phone to do both or actually pressing the talk and end buttons. this means that if u set it right, then you can open and close the phone during a call (cool!)
Camera-(Excellent)I mean it when I say it. You hold it landscape like a normal camera and has functions just like a normal camera such as a flash button, color effects (negative, monotone), self timer, up to 2 megapixel (WHICH LOOKS VERY HIGH QUALITY ON A COMPUTER), and memory card storage. I know that there is others i just forgot
Video Camera- Just the same as camera except slightly lower quality. This is normal among all the phones. It is much better than a razr but still room for improvement. However, the vids are good quality for you tube =D
Web Browser- Full touch screen experience, actually pretty fast to my experience only that I hav tried it for a day. The reason I like the mobile web browser is that it is affordable, $6 dollars a month, which is much better than the extra $ for a data plan. Overall, however, I would not reccomend getting this phone just for internet browsing, it is i nice well programmed extra, but not as good as the HTC Touch or the Moto Q.
Bluetooth- Very functionable. Speeds are decent and a little faster than most regular phones with a later version included. also has stereo bluetooth. Although, unless the phone is plugged in I would not use, for it will drain the battery quickly.
Battery-(Decent) I have used it for 3 straight days with normal use including music playing and texting, but minimal calling. The call time on most CDMA carriers is low. Compare the same type phone (razr for example) from alltel and vzw to Tmobile and At&t. The GSM networks have better battery life bc it takes less power to send that kind of signal. Hence, why thi iphone probably was not made for alltel or verizon both.
Design-(Pristine) Sleek and sturdy metal on the front, with vibrant stainless steel on the back. It really stands out when you talk on the phone. many people comment... wow! I like your phone. Which is nice every now and then. So overall this phone is nice and sturdy with now worries about it beign flimsy. However, I would reccomend getting atleast a carrying case for the metal attracts small scratches.
Extras-Actually announces the name of the person who is calling, Announces low batter, easily accesible clock and alarm on the home page (clock is dragable), features alltel's voice 2 text, T9 support which means very fast texting on the touch screen, unit converter, Convenient notepad I use for logging driving hours, world clock, nice calculator, tip calculator, youtube videos, and many more.
Conclusion- Best, reliable phone on the Alltel wireless network. This phone is truly not a gimmick and it is worth the money with all the features and extra. It might as well be the iPhone w/o the data plan!
