"Nice phone if you DON'T use it. Awful battery life."
on by PMBauerPros Wide screen, real keyboard.
Cons Battery life is truly awful. Using any feature other than phone calls or texts drains the battery like crazy. SmartActions app hasn't helped. This phone has non-removable battery, so you can't carry a spare.
Summary I really looked forward to this phone: real kbd, wide screen, G4, dual processor. However, it's of little use if the battery is dead, which doesn't take long.
Unfortunately, I am on Verizon's 2-year plan, so probably won't replace it soon. Sorry to say, but I miss the battery life and removable battery I had with my Blackberry. }:-( -
"Worst experience while trying to improve my business."
on by DagoPrincess2009Pros It has a nice browser for the internet.
Cons freezes up
buttons don't always work right
applications don't always work right
screen doesn't accept my finger
my verizon data button failed
setting it up was a nightmareSummary I purchased this phone because real estate has started moving lightening speed and I needed to be on top of things all the time. This phone has hindered my progress, caused me to miss calls, lose calls, miss photos. When a photo is texted to me I cannot save it to my phone like my simple little LG phone. The data button that is to show me my usage does not work. I clicked on it and instead of showing me my usage, it insisted I had to download something first and when I did, it used up more than my month's worth of data and then told me how much I used and guess what?? The My Verizon Data icon still doesn't work. Whenever I click on it, it asks me to download again.
Whenever I call tech support regarding the issues, they have an emulator that shows something completely different from my phone. When I click something to delete or add, it ignores me. I have hit the home button several times to no avail and tried to hang up on clients and found they were still on the phone but I was not able to get back to the phone screen to hang up on them.
I cannot save pictures to my phone that are sent to me via text message.
The phone goes dark WHILE I am keying numbers and prompts so I lose the entire call.
I am still within my 14 days to return it and I am going to do so promptly. -
"Great phone overall but big email bug"
on by BillSamuelPros Great keyboard
Very fast
4-GCons Emails do not clear out when you have downloaded them and they are no longer on the server. Since there is no batch delete capability, you have to delete each and every email by bringing it up and hitting the delete button. Poor design.
Summary Generally this has been reviewed as the best smart phone with a physical keyboard. It has a major defect in processing emails, but in pretty much all other respects is great.
UPDATE: CNET does not allow you to update rating, but I would change it to 3 stars if allowed. There is a second problem with the phone. The built-in applications were not designed to fit the way a keyboard phone is used. They are designed so some key application controls only are available in portrait mode. However, you can really only use the physical keyboard in landscape mode. So you have to flip back and forth between the two modes, which is particularly awkward when using the keyboard. This is a real design flaw.

Also, on the email not properly refreshing from the server, I talked with technical support at Motorola, Verizon Wireless and Verizon FIOS, and none could figure out a solution, altho all of them asserted that it should work.
Updated on Mar 29, 20133/29/13 UPDATE: They have now upgraded the Droid 4 to Jellybean, and replaced the entire interface. The key thing about the new interface is that they removed the option to set the phone to vibrate only (I confirmed with Motorola Technical Support that the feature has been removed). I consider this an essential feature. When in a setting where a phone ringing would be inappropriate, but you may want to use other applications, now you can not do that but have to turn the phone off completely to prevent ringing. Verizon does not allow you to update the rating, but there is no way I would give the current version that high a rating. DO NOT BUY THIS PHONE -
"Keeps Breaking."
on by ashley4jimmyPros I like the slide-out keyboard. The interface is great.
Cons I got the DROID4 in early Dec, 16 days later it went on sale $150 cheaper then I paid. They wouldn't credit me. 2 weeks later the ear speaker blew. Got a new phone. Less than a week later the ear speaker and the voice speaker blew.
Summary I had three DROID4 phones in less than 3 months! Cheapest, crappiest phones I've ever had. Hopefully the RAZOR that they are sending me will work better. I do know that when my 2-yr contract is up, I will be closing down my $400/month account and switching providers.
