  • "Power, Style, and most important a good PHONE"
    4.5 stars
    on by JayMonster

Pros: Great Call Quality, Easy to Customize, beautiful hi res screen, good battery life, and MORE

Cons: Keyboard does take some getting used to, multimedia tools are serviceable but not much more.

Summary: Whether you like the keyboard or not, at least you have the option of it with the Droid. And is not as bad a some would lead you to believe. The complaint... it is "too flat". (I wonder how flat that sheet of glass is on a virtual keyboard") You can still use just a virtual keyboard if you desire though. Most important factor in a phone is supposed to be the call quality, and there the Droid shines over virtually ever other Smart Phone on the market. It is of course the first Android 2.0 device and enjoys all the experiences of Android, including Google Search built in to the desktop for searching your phone (and the web), customizable desktop, more than 10,000 apps (at launch time and growing) and more. For a screen so large and bright and phone so powerful, the battery life on the Droid is surprisingly good. Some have said the screens look "slow" but it looks more like Android 2.0 makes the screen flips more smooth and appear slow. Controls and screen are responsive and even the speakerphone is crisp and sharp to listen to.

The camera is the area of some debate, but is a decent 5MP camera. Would I use it as a day to day camera? Probably not, but for a quick snap, it is more than capable.

The multimedia experience is somewhat lacking when compared of course to the iPhone which is a glorified MP3 player first and a phone second. The Droid is the opposite... it is a great PHONE that also has multimedia tools for playing music, listening to podcasts, etc. So in comparison, it really boils down to what is more important to you. If having an MP3 player is more important, then you would probably pick the iPhone over the Droid, but if you need good call quality that also happens to be able to play some music, then the DROID is a clear cut winner.
