Pros - Very powerful hardware (lots of potential)
- Decent built
- Feels solid (but there's no case available for it)
- HDMI output (kind of)
Cons - Built for 2.3, but stuck on 2.1
- Very slow camera
- EXTREMELY small internal memory
- Pretty much useless already
Summary Like others have said already (and let it be a lesson for me never to buy anything before reading the review on CNET), this high end phone has been abandoned by its manufacturer. There will be no update and no upgrade to its operating system EVER. The phone has spectacular hardware, but it uses only 50% of it because it runs Android 2.1.Well well well... While Motorola wasn't willing to make this phone more usable, and even went as far as encrypting the bootloader to make it harder to develop custom ROMs for it, some people found a way to fix the problem.
Of course, the paranoid management team at Motorola also locked and encrypted the bootloader, which basically means that no hacker in the world has been able to change the ROM and update the phone. Don't be foolish and hope for something that won't happen, the phone is forever locked in 2.1, and Motorola has ignored (so far) the THOUSANDS of postings asking for an upgrade. In short, if you buy this phone, you're encouraging Motorola to treat their customers like dirt.
So, to resume: phone COULD be great, but unfortunately, will never be. it's "abandonware" from Motorola. Don't waste your money on this...

You can now have Android 2.2 , otherwise known as Froyo in this phone. It really brings the device to life! For more news about it, or instructions, please visit:
Up yours, Motorola!
Pros The web browsing, applications, and spead (it has a 750 mhz processor) make it a strong messaging phone for a business user.
Cons The camera lags about a second behind the click, which is odd. And for 8 megapixels, the image is not that sharp. But the real con is that it is on Cincinnati Bell, which means that it may not get a 2.2 upgrade, or any other update or upgrade.
Summary If you are stuck on a Cincinnati Bell contract, this is probably the best phone they offer. I quickly got over the touch screen typing (I was a curve user before). But look elsewhere, with a phone company that has a deeper ties to Motorola, so you can get the necessary updates.
Pros Potentially a good phone if it had Android 2.2 which it doesn't and won't because Motorola abandoned this phone.
Cons It is stuck on Android 2.1 and is therefore virtually useless because you cannot add more than a few third party apps. It will never run Flash.
Summary I wouldn't buy this phone again, or ANY Motorola phone after this kind of treatment. It's shameful.
Pros Very nice and powerful phone. Small and works well. Great camera. Love the hardware.
Cons Was advertised as flash-ready, but cannot run flash. Will not receive 2.2 Froyo. Lacks app2sd with small internal memory, limiting installed apps severely. The bootloader is cryptographically locked so community 2.2 froyo ROM's are not possible.
Summary This phone is clearly designed for 2.2 Froyo and was marketed as a high-end phone; however, after indicating otherwise Motorola has now decided that this phone will stay at 2.1 Eclair (and to rub salt in the wound also that the older, lower-spec'd, cheaper original Milestone will receive 2.2).
It's a great phone but desperately needs Froyo's app2sd and improved JIT. Adobe released flash for froyo and higher, so this phone does not have flash (advertisements indiciated that the XT720 would have flash). Very disappointed that Motorola has decided to not release froyo. Since they have abandoned this phone (after only a few months on the market), Motorola should unlock the bootloader (but they won't).
Don't buy this phone unless it does exactly what you want out of the box and you are happy with its performance.
Pros Sleek, lots of features
Cons Slow, Shutter lag of 10 seconds, no flash, Motorola has abandoned phone.
Summary I regret buying - its stuck on android 2.1. Motorola promissed a fix and now is renegging. I will never buy a motorola product again. Its sad as it could be a great phone
