"Great Phone - The Truth Revealed" on by dragonsportbikes

Pros: LCD Screen, Tons of Add on Apps

Cons: No blue tooth, but the average user won't miss it.

Summary: I bought this phone on Ebay and unlocked it after reading the many reviews that were slamming it. I did my reseach well on this phone and here is the truth untold. First off, Battery life. I have read all of the negativity regarding the battery life of this phone. Not true!! The main problem that most users have is that they always plug thier phone into the cradle(usb)whichs also charges the phone. If this is done, yes you are gonna kill your battery. The only way to get the best performance out of a cell phone battery is to charge it up, and then use the phone till the battery runs down. it does not have to die, but enough were it is to the point were it needs to be charged. if you plug the phone into the cradle and leave it thier daily, you are never giving the battery a chance to be used. Now we know that we all wnat to sync and add software etc. Of course , do this , but when you are done, disconnect the phone. I get an average of 6 days use out of a fully charged battery. Try it, it works. On to performance. Anyone who has this phone should absolutly upgrade it to the 2003OS. (Search Ebay) It improves performance of the overall speed of the phone and battery life. This phone operates on (900-1800-1900 Mhz) I wasa told countless times that it would not work with Cingular becuase they use 850mhz. Well, since the merger with AT&T, I am tunes into an AT&T 1900mhz tower and I get better reception on this phone then I have with any other phone! (Rochester,NY)As long as you are on a nation plan, no roaming charges should apply. (check with your carrier). I have never experienced a dropped call or bad reception in the 3 months that I have had the phone, not once! The volume on this phone is not as bad as everyone says, you just need to really adjust the volume settings, all of them, especially the master volume. (Not in the manual, but if you play around enough, you'll fiond it). This phone has no camera, but come on, I have yet to see a camera phone that takes halfway decent pics, unless you spend a ton of money (really a ton!)get a real digital camera and make use of the SD slot that this phone comes with. I take pics with my digital and store them on my phone's SD card. They look great on this screen!! Overall, this is an awesome phone. It has expansion (SD slot), MP3 player (Media Player) and the 2003OS is nothing short of spectacular! For all the reviews that slam this phone, I am sure glad that I did not listen!!

"Gorgeous phone, but not enough memory for optimal use." on by TheMano

Pros: Absolutely beautiful phone. Capable of being unlocked from AT&T/Cingular.

Cons: Battery life, typical Windows glitches, battery life, can't use the speakerphone with phone closed, battery life.

Summary: I was so excited to play with those phone when I got it in the mail from eBay. I got it with loads of accesories for $118 brand new. The user actually forgot to unlock the phone so I had to send it back and wait another couple of days. When it came back, I was ready to load up the 1GB card I had with mp3s. This phone can so replace your normal mp3 player. The sound is absolutely amazing. If you get the right software you can watch videos on it too, but the lack of memory makes it a bit choppy, but it is still impressive. I think this is the most gorgeous phone ever produced by Motorola, or any manufacturer to date. It comes with Windows Mobile 2002, but I heeded some advice and upgraded it to Windows Mobile 2003. If you're a regular Windows XP user, then the layout will be very familiar to you and it should be a breeze to operate. The Internet Explorer is pretty decent, too. Granted I had the phone unlocked to work on T-Mobile so the T-Zones wouldn't work off the bat, but some WAP sites did work with no problem. If you have AT&T/Cingular, most likely you experience dropped calls because the network settings in the phone from AT&T and Cingular's new network are incompatible. Strange. I have yet to experience that from T-Mobile, but most of Florida is covered by them, but not all states, so check before you quote me. The only thing I absolutely hate about this phone is the battery life. The quoted battery stats are absolute bull. There isn't a day that goes by when I don't have to charge my phone, and this is without using Windows Media Player for music and videos. If you do use it, make sure you pack a car charger, because this battery sucks major. I've never had to charge a phone so often. That is the only thing I miss about my V300, it could go several days without recharging. The MPx200 won't make 24 hours without completely dying. Bill Gates' Windows OS is awesome, but just like on a PC, this phone does freeze, mine did on the first day I used it, and you have to remove the battery to restart it, which can be aggravating. The PDA functions are a major plus but the speakerphone operation requires you to keep the phone open, which is unfortunate, because this phone would look so unbelievably cool if you could use speakerphone with it closed, the layout is gorgeous.

I can't believe I forgot this. For all of you out there who didn't know, yes, you can use songs as ringtones, they just have to be in WMA format, and not mp3. Just go on Windows Media Player and rip it as an WMA file and sync it to the phone. You'll be humming to your favorite ringtone in no time.

I really love this phone, but I've had it for about two months and I have to say, this is one of the most annoying phones I have ever owned. I love the Windows Mobile interface and all of the features but this is first a 200 MHz computer instead of a fun, which is the problem. If anyone remembers the joys of operating a computer of that speed with 32 MB of RAM, I'm sure you know that you really couldn't do more than one thing at a time in fear of the computer freezing. That is exactly what happens with the MPx200. If you are on a call and another one comes in, it is impossible to switch over and take the call. I used to be able to, but now I press accept and nothing happens. That is really annoying. I don't have enough room to talk about how horrendous the battery life is on this phone. To add insult to injury, Motorola never came out with an extended battery for it, and I don't trust those generic ones that are crawling around. Granted I didn't charge my phone for the initial 24 hours as instructed by the manual, but I had to use my phone and I didn't have 12 more hours to wait. From what I can see, the MPx220 isn't much of an improvement, and it offers less expandable memory, 512 MB vs. 1 GB on the MPx200. If I could change my rating I would make it a "4" only because Windows Media Player is absolutely incredible and the sound quality is excellent.

I have done a lot of research to see exactly what to do to get the optimal performance out of my phone, and it has paid off. The main feature that will drain your battery is the IRDA/Beam feature. Make sure that this is turned off if it is not in use or else your phone will die in hours. This tip saved my phone. If I don't use my phone, it can go a good three days without being charged. If I initially charged the phone for a full 24 hours, I'm sure the phone would have been flawless. My fault. That Caller ID problem I described above doesn't happen anymore, and I have found a program that converts video files and it plays fine on the phone with no choppiness. I am loving my phone and think it is way better than half of the new crap that's out. If I didn't mention it before, this phone is as durable as Motorola's Nextels, which it also resembles. Every other person that sees my phone thinks it is a Nextel. If you get the Bodyglove V600 case for this, which fits, the phone looks awesome. This phone is an awesome deal and outdoes itself for the bargain price of around $120.

"This phone has it all, problems that is" on by Keep

Pros: Sync with Outlook, Color Display

Cons: Battery Life, Reception (need to go outside to talk at my house, in Metro Phoenix), Locks up (is currently locked until I get to a repair shop), Quality

Summary: Don't hang up by closing the phone or you'll cause the person on the other end to go deaf due to speaker/mic feedback. The coverage is horrible, especially indoors. The first phone I had the keypad didn't light up. The replacement is currently froze up. The buttons aren't the easiest to use. Wouldn't wish this phone on my worst enemy.

    "great phone," on by raajaa

Pros: design,sd card expansionmp3 playback with good sound, great for beginners

Cons: no sdio,no bluetooth, poor battery life, poor reception inside buildings

Summary: i hve this phone more than 18 months. i had mpx 220 and audiovox 5600 and had to return within 2 weeks due call drops and crappy audiovox design. the phone's mp3 playback is great and it fits my pocket. i upgraded to 2003 version and unlocked from ebay for 10 dollars!!! since i travel a lot it fits my pocket and flip model works great. dvd player from mobile media maker compresses the video and able to watch movies with good quality. microsoft street for smart phone version works well too. i am planning to keep the phone until they come up with better sleek design and more options in future. remember if you are a road warrior and most of the time in the car-candy size phones and touch screen dialing are going to be a pain. i am still with old att and so far the service has been great.couple of times my phone froze-if so do the master reset-customer care didn't teach me call motorola for all trouble shooting.mpx 200 rocks
