    "Great Idea...Bad Execution"

by MarsB on March 22, 2005

    Pros: Pretty Decent overall package

    Cons: Crappy Sound Quality

Summary: I purchased this phone with Cingular Wireless for $300 as I was an existing customer.

First, I love the idea of having a PDA and Phone in one... however, it's just poorly executed by Motorola.

Second, the SOUND quality (aka speaker) of the phone is TERRIBLE. The ringer is plenty loud with the appropriate tweaks, but once you're talking to someone it's hard to hear (and NO, I am not deaf). Additionally, when you turn up the volume, the flimsy plastic around the speaker, vibrates/resonates, giving a very unpleasant sound while trying to talk to anyone.

Third, Java games are a pain to implement. There is a way to get them to work, but it involves installing other 3d party apps. Overall, it's a hassle to load a game or application onto the PDA/Smartphone.

Fourth, waaaaay too many menus and shortcuts and things that you have to go through to do just about anything. If I want to set a stupid Alarm, don't make me go through 3 menus to do it (not to mention that it's only capable of 1 alarm... if you want more, you have to pay for a 3d party app.)

The main reason why I returned it was the poor sounding speaker. If I had a good quality speaker in there I would have kept the phone and lived with the little quirks. However, for the price, it seems a little flimsy, and just average quality. I had high hopes for this little phone, but in the end, it's going back to Cingular... better luck next time.

This is the most expensive and the absolute worse phone that I've ever owned. The first phone callers couldn't hear me. So I returned it and eventually the second was doing the same thing. I found the ROM update and installed. This worked for about a day and then the same issue. Would make a great PDA however I was buying it for the simplest function.. A PHONE!!
