"Dumbed down SmartPhone"
2.5 starson by JayMonsterPros: Looks nice, good keyboard
Cons: Sluggish, lacks features, lousy camera, can't cut and paste
Summary: Since I have been using Windows SmartPhones for some time, and always (up until now) used one with all the "Pro" level features, I was probably not the demographic Motorola was targeting with this phone. But then again, I'm not sure, who they were targeting... people that only cared if the phone looked good, I guess.
The Q9m looks sleek (well except for that stupid "multimedia interface" that it defaults to out of the box. Motorola did some sort of study and found that the original Q was bought as a multimedia first time SmartPhone by the majority of people that bought it. So I presume that is what allowed them to ship a phone that has awful, sluggish performance, a lousy camera that takes pictues not worth anything more than (maybe) something to throw up on an already crowded and ugly Myspace page.
This phone in theory should do three things well. Phone Calls, Texting and Multimedia. I don't use my phone as an MP3 player. I use it as a phone, and have a multimedia player. Thank goodness because the poor response of this player would probably give me fits. As a phone, it works well. Call quality is good (not great) and sound is loud and clear. But sending text (or using the keyboard in general) is a nightmare. Constant dropped keystrokes makes you constantly go back and fix your texts (if you notice of course), and response times are criminally slow. This all being while NOTHING else is running. Have something running in the background (like say, the audio for music), and you can just forget about getting anything done swiftly with this phone.
Windows Standard while in theory is ideal for this time of phone, however I don't see any speed improvement over phones that have the pro features built in, but the lack of features (such as the lack of the ability to cut and paste text) is quickly noticeable by those that are used to a more powerful SmartPhone.
If you want style, and good call quality you can go with the Q9m, I'd suggest everybody else look elsewhere.
