"Real Mans Phone"on by maddmaxx66
Pros I've had this phone for over 5 years. 38,000 hours logged on the timer, still going. Gets better, stronger signal than any other phone on the market today. Battery life is excellent, and sound clarity
Cons The case can be cracked easily, and Moto doesn't make them anymore.
Summary The StarTac is the best phone out there if you want a pure phone. No games, no camera, no silly ring tones, no crap. It's a phone people, and it's solid and performs at all times. I get signal on this baby when others fail, and the clarity is unmatched. I hate that Moto quit making it. It's getting harder and harder to find parts, but at 38,000 hours on it, I still wouldn't trade it for anything on the market today.
Pros Simple, Solid, Beautiful, Elegant, Dependable
Cons The Fools at Motorola Stopped Making It !!!!!!!!!
Summary The Startac is one of a kind. It's a timeless high quality machine, like my Ibm Thinkpad. Sometimes, once in a blue moon, a machine is designed that just feels perfect. This is the Startac.
It was king-of-the-hill before the cellphone industry went into a silly spiral of feature-adding nonsense - like cameras, games, ringtones and other gimmicky crap in order to get you to take your eye off the fact that they had started selling you flimsy, over-priced pieces of junk.
All you have to do is hold the Startac, open it, hear that solid click of the hinge, and feel the quality of the textured buttons to know it is a real high-end piece of equipment. The Startac is serious, not a toy. Not some shiny, smooth, lightweight-plastic piece of junk, like just about cell phone I've seen these days. Reception is usually great on the Startac, and your voice transmits crystal clear, not all warbly (like underwater) and cutting in and out like many of my friend's more modern phones. It does what a phone should do, ring, transmit and receive ... and all with precision, quality and style.
Only con: Sometimes I wish it had a color display.
Pros A REAL cell phone. No jokes. I've used this phone since 2000 and it still out-lasts ever piece of worthless crap out there. 22,000 Hour's
Pros Easy to use, sturdy, dependable, long battery life, absolute vintage beauty!
As of March 2010, SPRINT CAN STILL ACTIVATE IT!! It is CDMA and Dual Band!!!
Cons The antenna is flimsy like others have mentioned. You will need to order batteries and accessories off E-bay, and they may be also new old stock, and therefore depleted a little already.
Summary I was so happy to find out that my Startac is still activatible! I have no interest in IPhones or any of the other touch screen phones/computers..Blackberries, Blueberries, Raspberries or Snozzberries for that matter! I cannot wait for my T-mobile account to expire in a few months, and then start up the Startac with Sprint. It is indeed vintage beauty, and I just love the "click" sound as it opens, the beautiful aqua lit background and the font style numbers and letters. It fits nicely in the palm of my hand and has always been dependable. I may miss the short videos and pictures that I was able to achieve with my Razr (also by Motorola), but the camera in it was grainy at best when printed onto photo paper. I will purchase a digital camera/video to do that job right. For the phone however, I am just thrilled to again be able to use my Startac! I may get a few odd looks whilst using it, but that just adds to it's perennial charm! Take care all!

Pros Battery life
Cons No accessories!
Summary I bought this phone only 7 years ago, and I can't find any accessories for it. I can't take pictures or play my mp3's with it, either.
