Summary: Since purchasing the nokia e71x, I can say that I am very satisfied. The phone is slim but has a solid feel and has a good fit in the hand. I didn't want to purchase a data plan so wifi was a must. The phone has bluetooth 2.0 so I can use bluetooth headphones. There is a 2.5 mm jack which is a bit disappointing since the phone has some great multimedia capabilities. However, there are adapters so it's not too much of a big deal. The keypad is also a little small but the keys have a nice textured feel and each key rises in the center so it became very easy to get used to and to type proficiently. Software wise, the phone has symbian s60 which I think is a great operating system since it's open and easily customizable. The camera on the phone is 3.2 megapixel and has flash. If your outside or in a bright area, the phone takes great photos that are sharp and have accurate colors. At night, photos are acceptable thanks to flash. They do have a bit of a fade and the flash gives a bluish color but most phones take terrible pictures at night or dark areas anyway so you can't knock this phone. The phone also has gps which is a nice feature. The phone has att navigator but it will cost you since you need a data plan. To sidestep this, you can use google maps for mobile which is free and uses wifi to chart your position and gps to pinpoint where you are or you can use Nokia navigator which is also free and will allow you to use gps and to download maps directly to the phone so you don't have to be connected to the internet to plot the maps.
For email, the phone is capable but is not very efficient. I created an email inbox and am unable to delete it so that is a problem. However, if set up properly, it does work and it is easy to download attachments and view regular messages. Nokia also offers it's own email service called nokia messages which is very easy to use and set up. You can set the accounts on the computer and it will appear on your phone. It is a great service although you do have to pay for it. Besides email, the phone is able to sync with macs. There is a small file to download but after that, I was able to sync my contacts, my calender, and music. You can create a playlist in itunes and can set the isync software to sync that playlist making music transfers seamless. I also downloaded the nokia sync software for pc which is even better. You can connect your phone to your pc and type and send messages or copy information right on the computer. I use both a mac and a pc and being able to connect to both back and forth is extremely useful.
Overall, I think this phone gives any smartphone, including the iphone, and run for it's money. At $99 (or $149 if your upgrading without a data plan), I think the E71x is worth the money. The iphone may be better entertainment wise but the nokia is just as productive and costs much less if you look at initial price and the cost of data plans. I recommend this phone to anyone looking for a phone that has great connectivity and compatibility.
