"A brilliant convergence device!"
Pros: Camera, features, size
Cons: sounds quality, speed
Summary: I've had this phone for a week now. It replaced the first phone which I truly loved - my SE K750 - which I broke a few days before getting this.
I will put this caveat first, I love SE phones, always have. I've wanted to like Nokias, but after a few false hopes, haven't yet. I end up comparing everything with an SE. So, onwards...to the cons first.
The qualms I have, which stop me from offering a 10 out of 10, are three fold. First, the Symbian-OS still feels slow. Opening applications feels much longer/slower than it probably actually is, but it is enough time to think 'Wow, this is taking some time'. Also, I seem to run out of system memory frequently - Nokia should have included a better application manager. Secondly, I find the quality of the sound when on a call is flat and echoes slightly...not due to bad reception (I actually get great reception with it using Cingular), but due to a sub-par speaker. Finally, the build quality just isn't on the same level as SE phones. The past two SE phones I've had, well, you could squeeze them and the just felt solid. You squeeze this and it issues small plastic cries of pain.
On the plus side, which is pretty huge, there are many reasons to love this phone. The screen is gorgeous, clear, bright and rich. It really looks huge, too, and doesn't seem to gobble up power too much. The internal speakers are nice, and having two seperated speakers does give a neat false-stereo effect. The camera is, of course, superb, though a little slow for me (don't plan on capturing any action shots with it). The OS, though slow, can do a lot. I loaded Google Earth on and it is incredible being able to see live traffic conditions on my phone. Being able to open and edit MS Office documents, including PowerPoint files, is great. Edge works well for me, and is pleasantly fast. Reception strength is great, being a quad-band, and for the first time ever I can use my cell phone anywhere in my house. The size is good, just a little taller than my K750, which is just about perfect for handheld use. Having bluetooth 2.0 is also pretty cool, but that is commmon on most BT phones now, so not so remarkable.
Overall, if you are looking for a smartphone in a normal sized phones package size, go for this. If you want an excellent camera on the go, get this. If you want to be able to run tons of different applications, get this. If you are just looking for a neat phone, get something else.
