Pros: Wonderful Battery Life, Great Audio, Great Camera, Good Keyboard, Bright Screen

Cons: The D Pad is a bit hard to get used too

Summary: This phone I was expecting just too be a tad better than my N75 (which was an utter disaster). I was looking for something under 100 dollars, that had a key board (and by the way, this is not a touch screen, but I am perfectly fine with that), and would work reasonably well. When I took this home it exceded my expectations by a long shot. It's much more simple to use, barely any lag what so ever, has a great camera, speedy internet (and youtube is absolutely amazing on it), there is not much else I could ask for.

This phone has a sleek enough design, the keyboard and its keys are big (I have quite large fingers so its what I look for), and it feels well built. I have always been into Nokia's, and this, out of the three past Nokia's I've had, is a wonderful addition to the Nokia fleet.

I highly suggest this to anyone, whether it's a teenager or some one whos into business but doesn't want to spend money on a PDA and/or touch screen. It's a beautiful phone and I'm still wondering why it has not become more popular!

Cons: Headphone jack non-standard

Summary: Being cost conscious, I've been hobbling along on an old basic samsung AT&T phone that my husband had when he left ATT. I had a nicer lg phone, but my grand daughter got a hold of it, chewed on it, & it stopped working. With my basic service, everytime someone would text me, I'd groan and tack on another 20 cents to my bill.

Meanwhile, more and more of my friends would be zipping around with smartphones & responding to emails anytime & anyplace, checking prices online while shopping, texting, exchanging pictures thru text, etc. My son came home with one last year, out of the blue, on our family plan...grrrrrrrr. I thoroughly researched the cost to get a smart phone and add it on for me with ATT, but just couldn't justify the cost and commitment.

The Straight Talk plans I'd heard about were just too good. My husband's obligation to ATT ended and he got a 401 Samsung phone with Straight Talk a couple of months ago. It gets 1000 min of voice, 1000 texts & 30mg internet for $30 a month with no commitment. I played with it, but what I need is a phone that will automaticlly pick up my email and let me know when it comes in. His is nice, but it won't do that . Also, the internet is existant, but seems to take a lot of work to get to a site and see anything.

Anyway, my second hand phone shut itself off for the 4th time the other day. I went online to again research my options and discovered that Straight Talk now has smart phones! After looking at the 2 choices, I decided on the 6790 because I was really unsure whether I could manage the tiny keyboard on the other one.

I love it! I've already synced (via bluetooth to my laptop) my contacts and calendar from Outlook. Every time I get near my computer, it automatically syncs. Also added some pictures to contacts and assigned them unique ring tones (songs downloaded from itunes on my pc). I set the ringtones/notification tones for email, text, im, reminders & voice calls, took a picture of my grand daugher reaching towards me to get the phone (no,no,no!), viewed a couple of youtube videos, discovered I couldn't view a abc7.com news clip, viewed my location on the gps while driving (it moves with you-I think I'll stick with my regular GPS),used 411 (got back a text with name, address and phone number after being connected), used it with my bluetooth earpiece for calls & listened to a couple of songs on the tiny speaker. Sound was not too bad for a tiny speaker...

A client emailed me & I got a beep, viewed the email and responded within seconds! Sweet! The internet looks and acts better than it does on my husband's phone. I searched the MLS, & viewed pictures. EZ. The internet acts much like it does on my laptop, though it has a miniature screen. The time to load is just a couple of seconds longer than my broadband connection at home, if that.

There are a couple of glitches I'm working on right now, but it may just be a learning curve. The main one is that I'm getting the "memory full, get rid of something" type message. The little card still has 2GB on it and none of the songs I downloaded are on it. I downloaded them by dragging and dropping into "Nokia PC Suite" (downloaded from nokia.com). I can not find the place to signify where to store pictures, music, etc.

Overall, I'm thrilled...Straight Talk for $45 a month (after buying the phone). No tax. No extra charges. No commitment. Unlimited everything! This phone doesn't work on the $30 plan. It's still a bargain!

One thing I forgot to mention. It's true, the only way to enter a number to call is embedded in the slide out keys. My older eyes have a bit of a problem with this. Also, I have over 1000 contacts so scrolling is very slow. The workaround is to use the speed dialing. Daughter 2-call, friend 4-call, etc.

Summary: Overall it is a great phone for a school student or the average small office job. I dont think 299.99 is a reasonable price due to the E71 and E5 phones.

Pros: It works as designed. It is faster than a Nokia E71x for Web Browsing. It allows many paths to e-mail. With the right case it can even float. The viewong options are nice.

Cons: Nokia has created a device that even they don't fully support. The N6790 Surge is not able to:
1. Sync with Windows 7
2. Is not supported by Nokia OVI Website.
3. Cannot use Google Maps.
The list of cannot useis much longer than the can use list

Summary: The Nokia 6790 Surge is a great disappointment after the Nokia E71x it replaced. Both have the Symbian OS I wanted but, that is where the similarity ends. One has to think that Nokia Cheaped-Out when it came to functionality. It is not supported by Nokia's Do-All OVI Website. All other Nokia Symbian Devices are support but, Not the 6790 Surge. It syncs well with MS XP,Vista, Novell/Suse WS11.x but, it Will Not Sync with MS Windows 7.any. If you are looking for a SmartPhone for business the Nokia 6790 Surge Is Not the right choice. If AT&T Wireless Sales Staff were better trained, I would not be locked into the Lump O'Lard. So now I must live with it and Nokia has to endure my Less than Enthusiastic Reviews of this product. If you want a Do-It-All Nokia SmartPhone get an E-Series Device,don't waste your time/money on this lack-luster device. If you want to hang a Smarter Device on your child, then give it a look.
