"Better PDA than phone"
on by forkboyPros Good product for the price; easy to use in general; strong Tasks and Calendar functions; lots of calculator functions; nicely sized; good quality LCD screen; good, but not great, battery life; good call quality (both sending and receiving)
Cons In my experience the phone regularly cancels placed calls (before connection to dialed party); reboots phone when trying to save media received via text messaging; keys are cramped (but I have big fingers)
Summary We purchased two of these phones (for me and my daughter) almost one year ago (July 2008) and have, for the most part, liked the phones. Being thicker than some other smartphones I find them easier to hold (at 6'4" I have large hands and this does make a difference in comfort), but it also means the keys are cramped and I often have difficulty hitting them correctly.
Having owned a Palm Zire PDA for years I was excited to be able to easily transfer all my contacts, calendar events, tasks, etc. to the phone. Seemless and simple. As a PDA this smartphone is a really strong choice in my opinion, especially in the area of calendar events and tasks. Having looked over other smartphone choices before selecting this one I can say that if you really need a device to help keep you organized then this one will fit the bill.
The only real criticism I have is that my phone (and I'm on my second because I returned the first for the same problem) often hangs up on an outgoing call after I place the call, but before it actually makes the call active. And it sometimes does this repeatedly while trying to place a single call. I'm not returning the second phone even though it does the same thing and just accept this as a quirk.
A smaller, but irritating, issue is that the phone reboots whenever I try to save a MMS item sent via text messaging. This too could be a quirk of just my phone, but annoying it is nevertheless.
On the whole if I had the whole thing to do other I may look at another option, but if you need a device that is strong on the PDA side of matters (and don't need/want Internet access) then this should be a strong contender. The PDA functions are robust, well thought out and mostly intuitive. -
"this phone is AWFUL"

"BUGGY and BROKEN"
on by Kemmerer13Pros Voice recorder's fun, record your own ringtones, SanDisk Micro will give a ton of space if buy one, All the benefits of Palm PDA, Web surfing decent speed, bluetooth ready. Take and store decent pictures. Decent add ons like Google maps and Radio.
Cons Freezes a lot, phone broke after 4 months of use, lots of bugs, clunky, Small keyboard, battery will only last half of the day than you have to sync it or plug it in or you are in trouble. Headphone jack broke and is proprietary.
Summary If you are too cheap to buy an iPhone, and want a functional, decent phone then buy this (don't get a refurbished one!!) but buyer beware...the headphone jack broke within a week of using it, it has a TON of bug issues. Mine all of sudden stopped being able to hear and talk on phone calls! At the end of the day the most important function on your phone is the ability to make a phone call! So if you can't afford an expensive phone...you can't afford this one either (since you'll end up having to spend another 200 to get a new one in 6 months).

"AWESOME SMARTPHONE"
on by ZauntoPros Call quality is excellent. Multimedia performance excellent. Web and E-mail are awesome. Small package, familiar Palm OS. Camera takes excellent pics and video.
Cons Battery Life of standard battery is mediocre. Get the extended battery (The biggest Extended Battery is 2400 MAh). They can be found online. This will make the unit more bulky, but it's worth it.
Summary Best entry level Smartphone under $40. Mine was free when gotten at Walmart and extending my contract 2 years. It does various things that the iPhone doesn't and I can swap out batteries and micro SD cards at will.

"Beware of the Nav Ring issues!"
on by jagalbraithPros TONS of software available for it.. it reads my 4GB mini with no problems.
Cons It will cost you $30 for the software to use it as a modem. Sure you can load mp3s on it.. good luck finding a set of headphones for that tiny jack.
Summary The navigation ring in the center has a flaw in the design. If you get any pocket lint, thick liquid (Couple drops of coffee or soda) and the down button of the ring will fail to work. I have replaced my phone 4 times because of this. Get the iPhone or a Blackberry.
