"Probably great for some, but not me" on by KrimsonMan
Pros: Small and compact, the OS, multi-tasking
Cons: Lock feature; slide out QWERTY horrible for heavy texters; no expandable memory.
Summary: I am coming from a Treo 755p, so the Pre's slide out keyboard was a pain in the a#@. If you're a heavy texter, don't get this phone. Unless you plan on keeping the thing open, which isn't a great idea, you're in for a lot of sliding.
The lock feature is basically 2 extremes. I couldn't program the phone to lock after a set period of time, like the 755p. So, after 15 seconds of the Pre turning off, the phone is locked. Imagine trying to text back and forth, and having to uunlock your phone every 30 seconds. Your other alternative is to never have it lock - dangerous !!!
The charger is garbage. We shouldn't have to open a slot to plug in the charger. The workaround is a slick piece of hardward called Touchstone that you place the phone on. But, this is a $70 add-on.
I loved how I could sync my iTunes (but I could use a memory card to add more) and make any of the songs my ringtone.
I've had the phone for less than 24 hours, so this is in no way a complete review; however, I'm returning it. I've discovered that no matter how good the phone is, certain things are deal breakers - for me, it's the sliding feature. I'm not a fan. This phone would probably be perfect for somebody else.
