"Missed expansion slot and horizontal keyboard?!"

    by danielszabo1981 on June 4, 2009

Pros: After watching the video, I'm not in the mood to talk about pros.

Cons: To beat the iPhone, there were TWO GLARING MUST-HAVES, AND THEY ONLY NAILED 1/2 OF ONE.

Summary: Seriously. To beat the iPhone, there were two must-haves: expansion slot, and keyboard. To their credit, they had the forethought to include a keyboard. However, as if the engineers were determined to stick to the mediocre safety of the last 4 - 6 years, they used the ****-poor cleo keyboard that features microscopic keys that hurt your fingertips when typing. As a product useability staple, it should be well f'ing known that bigger keys equals better, which can be achieved with horizontal configuration. Its not a magic formula, it certainly isn't a new idea--it's a well known design decision that, by its omission, makes me doubt the integrity and ability of the project managers responsible for this all-hype product.

And don't even get me STARTED on the omission of expandable memory. Unforgivable.

To sum up, let's just say that where they missed, they missed big
    1. Vertical keyboard layout creating smaller keys
    2. The omission of an expandable memory slot (come on now! with 16gb chips available!)
    3. Llaggy software (with today's speeds, lag in something as simple as a phone OS is reprehensible).

    Ultimate Crux
iPhone killer it is not. Firmly cements Sprint ever further into the "not as cool as AT&T" category.

So, you wrote a review after watching CNET's review? ***? How about actually using the phone before writing a review on it?

One glaring problem with this review is that it is based off of another review, not based on actual first-hand knowledge of the product. It is ridiculous that danielszabo1981 thinks he can review a product he has never used. This really isn't a review as much as it is a summary of a video. He should go into the web accessibility business and create alternative content for those that can't view videos.

@ NJDriver I don't know how often you use your phone, but I am a serious power user of phones and have yet to find a phone that will last me the day without changing batteries or charging for significant portions of it. Think $500+ cell phone bills with max minutes before the all you can eat rate plans.

The battery life on this phone is a bit low but not significantly lower. Makes little difference to me if I change batteries at 2pm or 4pm. For most users, the battery life is acceptable. Either they won't use it enough to notice the difference or use it too much that they will need to charge/change battery midday on any real smartphone. Much of the negative comments around battery life was a result of an early bug in the IM application.

The Pre is more for kids and people affected by hype.
@Crashintolt: Multiple batteries is not an advantage. serious people don't want to carry a couple of $50 batteries in their pockets to use their phone through the day.
Pre's strong point is not emailing. You cannot search your emails and the way the software works on synergy you will never be able to, it can't be fixed.

GIve me a break. You reviewed a phone via watching a video. Get your hands on one for a while and come back.

I actually have the Pre and the iPhone. Pre compares well. It works better as a phone/communication device than the iPhone. iPhone has more use as handheld due to their extensive 3rd party development. We will have to see if the Pre can catch up.

In any case, I like the Pre a bit more because it has multi battery, real keyboard, and Sprint has WAY BETTER coverage than ATT (you can roam on Verizon for free so two networks in one). I am tired of dropped calls on ATT.

SUMMARY: I'll use the Pre for email/calling. iPhone for playing games.

I actually own one of these and let me that:
    1. The keyboard is not that bad
    2. Yes there is no expandable memory and it sucks but is not really that big of a deal.
    3. I have yet to experience laggy software unless i have alot of programs running all at once.

I do not believe that you have one of these or have even used a pre. So stop making poor reviews that have no basis.
