"A 10 for design elegance but if it's unusable as a phone what good is it?"2.0 starson by rwambold
Pros: Super elegant, easy, usable interface
Cons: Persistent annoying loud buzzing on phone calls
Summary: This is my third Handspring/Treo/now Palm PDA phone. With each iteration the design has gotten better. And I love this unit as a PDA and in terms of the design of the phone. But the call quality is deplorable. People I call tell me the buzzing is so bad they can't hear what I'm saying. I've done my research and this is a known, very widely reported problem. Palm replaced my first phone at 10 mos. because I was having this problem, but now the replacement unit is having the same problem and they won't replace it because I'm
"out of my warranty window." For the pleasure of having them fix their phone that cost me $500 and is by the admission of the person I spoke with known to be defective in the way I've described, I'll be charged $179 (plus a 25% discount! my friendly customer service representative tells me, as if I'll feel better about paying $134 to have them fix their phone). I really want to love this device because of its design and functionality but it's simply not realistic as a usable phone. Basically I've got a $500 PDA. Add to that the fact that Palm knows about the problem but refuses to deal with it after the 12 mo. warranty period, and on net I can't help but rate this device poorly.
