"VERIZON USERS BY WARNED!!!"
Pros: Great Phone
Cons: May be hard at first for people that do not know computers
Summary: I am having a hard time believing that PalmOne would sell to Verizon if they truly new what Verizon was going to charge people to use it.
I also have a hard time believing that Verizon believes that they can sell the TREO 650 and charge $45 on top of everyones basic plan.
Yes you read it right, $45 Extra to use a TREO 650 on the internet through Verizon.
You Have been WARNED!!
Verizon has blocked the Treo 650 from accessing the internet the way 1,000,000s of people do with web enabled cell phones.
It was Much cheaper for me to lower my Verizon plan to the minimum cost and Go to CINGULAR! $15 for unlimited text gets you unlimited internet through Cingular!
Be careful , read all the fine print. If you do and Need a TREO 650 Do Not Use Verizon Wireless.
Not having to carry my laptop on flights is a wonderful thing!

While the phone does not offer wi-fi, I have hurd that some vendors are working on a SD card that will...
Until then, I have been able to bypass the $45 a month, by using a dial-up account to get internet access on my Treo 650. It's not as fast, but it works! -
Do you feel Verizon is ripping you off because you have no option in what to do. Going to another provider that doesn't serve the need is not the best thing to do.
I am going to buy a PDA phone my self and I feel that unlimited e-mail as well as a plan that will allow me to pay under the 45.00 will work for me and i don't have to go to any other provider just go to verizon.

How about a review of the endless non-internet related features? I agree that the Verizon marketing plan for unlimited internet/data access is high, but consider who they aiming at: Corporate masters of the universe for whom $45 a month is either not their expenditure or is, and doesn't matter.
For the rest of us, and I am definitely in that latter category, this is an unnecessary extravagance. But if you are saving for something really great, this is it.
Are you a gear head? I am what you might call a selective one. I'm very interested in all-in-one devices and I do my homework. That's the only defense we paupers have against the "big mistake", one which could slay mortals but not even disturb the corporate masters who, after discovering that their PDA/phone/camera/video camera/internet conduit/email client/game player/mp3 player isn't quite what they'd hoped it would be, chuck it in the bin and get something else. I, we, can't afford that kind of mistake. And so I say to you of my ilk, buy and enjoy. It's a miracle.
It's not too big. That criticism is fiction.
The camera is the best I've ever seen in a non-camera entity.
It's operating system is, dare I say, elegant. It has enough history to anticipate many of the obvious flaws. That's what evolving operating systems do.
There are numerous third-party upgrades, fun, fun.
Get a 1 GB storage card and carry your pics, favorite songs, WORD docs, PDF files, short videos, and surf the net-
Oh, I forgot, you have to pay for that...

Verizon really does have a racket going with this. My research started when I saw your comment and I called Verizon about the $45.00 fee. I just switched over to a Treo 650 after FINALLY giving up on my crappy Samsung i600 Smartphone (NO one could hear me when I spoke & it crashed constantly). Verizon was nice enough to exchange that one for the Treo and I was as happy as can be. BUT...I saw your comment and became suspicious. When I called Verizon they stated that no $45 dollar charge was accessed to my account, but when I checked further on my online summary...I noticed the pay as you go total for data was mounting up. Well...when I received last months bill...my 59.00 a month was over 220!! I immediately got on the phone and hammered Verizon for just "assuming" I wanted data service with no agreement signed by me of accepting the cost. With MUCH apology and Stuttering on the part of the CSR...the cost was dropped, but I was informed I HAD to have some type of data plan with the phone. I told them I have the phone strictly for the convenience of syncing to my firms Outlook application and the PocketTunes for my music (GREAT feature by the way with a 1GB card! All this hype about the Apple/Motorala phone! I've been listening to music on my phone for years!)I have a firm Blackberry device to do any "Web" surfing necessary, but I'm patient enough to wait to get in front of my laptop to do all that. The statement from Verizon is that "this" specific smartphone ALWAYS searches out for data (I was told it does this every 6 seconds) I think they're confusing the use of Wireless sync via Verizon. That should happen ONLY if you sign up for that service and have your Treo pushing data. I'll be keeping a close eye on it, but you have to stay on top of the Customer Service People or they will always "assume" that as a Smartphone user....what features you SHOULD be using. They did the same to me when I had the Samsung. WHAT THEM! Besides this issue with them...the phone is great! Love the Speaker phone feature. I have Voice Signal with it so I can just state a command to find and dial a contact. If you're a music lover...PocketTunes is the way to go (has it's own Equalizer built in). I purchased the Seidio Stereo Headset for my Treo. None of Verizon's Headsets worked (stereo). I recommend the retractable version of the Seidio. The sound is amazing. My family and friends are happy to finally hear my voice now. The voice transmissions is great!

I was just checking out Verizon vs Cingular today (the end of my Verizon contract is coming up soon and I have been considering Cingular) and saw that both Verizon and Cingular are pretty much charging the same rates for the unlimited data usage. However, it gets complicated. For Verizon, if you just have the unlimited data usage, its $50/mo (or $30/mo for 10MB usage), but if you get a voice & data plan it actually only adds $40/$30/$20 (determined by the amount of minutes in the comparable voice only plan) to your monthly bill. Basically, if you are already paying for lots of minutes every month, they tack on a lesser charge for the data usage. Now, Cingular has a wider offering of data services with 5MB, 10MB, 20 MB, and unlimited usage for $20, $30, $40, and $45 per month, respectively. And, from what I have seen, they do not have the bundling deals.
So, it looks like with either provider, you will end up paying a pretty penny every month for the data service. Hope this helps. -
Just got one, used Samsung i700 before, but need to sync with Mac, need Palm instead of Windows.
At the time of renewing the contract for another two years at Verizon store, about four hours ago, refused to add their data plan; told them I will use up my minutes if I go online with Treo.
The story, that I have to add a data plan to the existing plan, if I use a PDA phone with Verizon, was told me some time ago over a 611 call by VZN customer service rep, while activating Samsung i700. Refused that time also and Internet Explorer worked fine, just the way Blaser does on the new Treo.
