"Buyer Beware - My 4th Treo has now failed"
Pros: Works with Palm OS
Cons: Fails after 1-3 months, absolutely unreliable
Summary: Beware Beware! The amount of pain, time lost and sheer aggravation lost trying to make these things work with hours apon hours on the phone with Palm, cingular etc is not worth it, even to someone who had been so wedded to the Palm system that I put up with it.
I have had 4 Treos now, (3 650's and 1 680), ALL with problems. At first, they are great, nice screen, etc etc, just like the other positive reviews in this section.
Then, after a couple of months, they go down. First the device slows. They the cell service somehow deteriorates. Then it either stops functioning as a PDA or, like the current 680, doesn't work as a phone. It sends and receives calls but you can't hear the caller and they can't hear you. Text messages work.
Palm "offered" to fix it after I go down, wrap it, send it in and wait for 1-2 weeks for them to send it back (what do I do for a phone ine meantime) or for $25 will send a refurbidshed replacement in 3-5 days (again, what to do for a phone in the meantime...).
Multiple friends have had similar problems, very few have had trouble free Treos past the first few weeks.Updated
Also, the battery life is so poor that the phone discharges and goes dead in less than a day if not charged - so count on paying for and having an extra battery around.
So even after having had multiple generations of Palm devices (7 including the 4 Treos), I can no longer stomach the pain and will have to move on to something that works more than just part of the time.
I am still looking at the device wondering what happened to their quailty control and saying to myself "What was Palm thinking."
