"Good, but leaves you thinking about potential"
3.0 starson by jrhurrenPros: familiar palm os interface, easy to type on qwerty keypad, makes im and email a breeze. As with all Palm/Blackberry devices, you get out of it what you put in.
Cons: Poor battery life, tends to be 'buggy' and crash on a semi-routine basis, hot-sync is very finnicky
Summary: So, having had my 680 for over a year now I think I can give a pretty balanced overall picture.
The Treo does just about everything one could want from a smartphone: calendar, contacts, email, mp3, camera, documents, etc. That being said, it really is a great item to have along with you wherever you go. In my professional life as well as my personal life it definitely has kept me organized and up to date. The add-on software that's available with the palm os is superior to any of the others out there currently, imo. (I use BankBook to manage my bank accounts as well as Lexi software for pharmacy-related info)
That being said, the Palm does everything "ok" without overwhelming you anywhere. The Palm Calendar software could use an update for sure, as it really is not as flexible as I would like and I constantly am finding myself getting creative in entering info that I'm sure 90% of the rest of the world would like to enter also. Similarly, HotSyncing is always a pain, as the device seemingly is recognized on a random basis and I pretty much have to play with it to hotsync properly. Why this hasn't been fixed in years is beyond me. This is the third Palm I've had and it's been a problem with every one.
Also, as others have said, the battery is really quite atrocious. If I don't charge it every night it will be dead half way through the following day. Which is a terrible inconvenience for those who depend on these devices at work.
So, despite the drawbacks I mentioned I really do like my 680 a lot. If they could just fix the minor bugs and get it a better battery it would be a phenomenal product. As it is, nothing out there suits my needs better so I'll stick with what I've got.
