"Nice improvement over the 650, great value"4.0 starson by kevin.talbot
Pros: Great Palm OS which makes it a full-fledged PDA
Cons: Would have likeed a bettter camera ( 1+ MP)
Summary: I used a Treo 600 for about two years then a 650 for about a year and loved them both. I dropped my 650 recently and busted it so the timing was perfect as I got my 680 last week.
I also tried the Samsung blackjack for about a week (30 day free trial with Cingular) but found it lacking. It's a sleek, sexy phone but a lousy PDA. I really wanted to like it but its PDA limitations are just too severe for my needs. I have tried a few other Windows mobile 5 devices and I think they are hard to use compared to a Treo plus there are virtually no third party apps that you can get for them (normal Pocket PC programs will NOT work on them).
I am sold on the Palm OS for phones. The 680 is a great phone (but it could be slimmer I think) and a very solid PDA that runs virtually any Palm OS program you can find.
By the way, the 680 DOES have dial by voice. It comes with a 15 day free trial of a third party program that works with spoken commands like "call dave at work" or "call 206 555 1212". After 15 days the "names" stop working (unless you pay about $15 I think) but the voice dialing by numbers still works. And you can assign any button you want to launch that app. I have tried it and it seems to work pretty well.
After using both Palm and Windows Mobile based phones, I just don't understand how anyone would be happy with the WM5 solution. It is harder to use, buggy and woefully lacking in features compared to the Palm phones.
