"Treo 700p needs no WiFi."
Pros: Everything the Treo 650 is and EVDO
Cons: Not the new Linux based Palm OS.
Summary: I am tired of hearing reviews that people say, "No WiFi built-in".
Built in WiFi is for people that have not a clue, I say.
About to yell:
THIS IS A PHONE ON A PHONE SERVICE. HOW COULD THEY MAKE MONEY WITH WI-FI BUILT IN. THAT WOULD DEFEAT THE PURPOSE OF HAVING A BUSINESS.
Okay done.
EVDO is a great added feature to this already packed phone. With the new keyboard layout and feature set I will upgrade from my Treo 650 just for the EVDO. Speed baby.. It's all about the speed.
With PDANET this phone will be a very fast portable cable modem when attached to my laptop. Can you say Internet anywhere?
I give this 9 out of 10 just because it does not have the Linux based Palm OS that we are all waiting for in the future.

WiFi is a must. It makes it easier to sync to the desktop, print to a network printer, share files, etc. I can only sync this phone to my Tablet PC via USB cable. The tablet does not have Bluetooth nor does it have an Ir port. It does have however, WiFi. I use my Tablet PC out in the field. I have a Brother MFC-640W All-in-One in my 4Runner, running off of a power converter. I can scan a document that gets sent to my Tablet then I use an Internet based fax service to fax it out, or E-mail it. I currently use a Sprint Sierra 580 EVDO air card to get me on the net. If I have a spreadsheet that I want printed, then I just send that to the printer from the Tablet via WiFi. W/O WiFi in the 700p, I'm going to have to either connect to my Tablet via USB to print out from the phone or scan a document in. I will also be getting rid of the air card and will be using the phone as a modem, which I will have to connect with a cable instead of WiFi.
Bottom line. Palm should have installed WiFi. Palm ALWAYS just falls short of giving you a perfect product. I've thought for years that they did that on purpose...to keep you hungry for the newest technology every time they roll out a new model. I would have upgraded to the cool T|X had Palm included the voice memo feature. This is what I mean. They keep falling short.
I'm banking on being able to install Jot so that I can keep on using Graffiti. I can put write in a whole sentence by the time some types out "Hello" on that dinky little keyboard. Graffiti should have been included too.
I've been a Palm user since my first Palm Pilot 5000 my wife bought for me for Christmas of 1996. I've owned since then a Palm III, a Palm IIIc, and I have been using a Tungsten T2 since 1993. My wife has had a IIIc and now she has a Lifedrive. I love the complex simplicity of it. I use my T2 in ways that people couldn't even begin to guess. I've had fellow Palm users say "Damn! I didn't even think to do that!!!" Some don't even know what their Palm is capable of doing. My entire life is in that machine.
I am jumping on the bandwagon of smartphones. I'm getting tired of carrying two pieces of equipment all day long. I'm hoping that this will take up where my Tungsten was. We'll soon find out. -
First of all wifi is a great thing to have especially if you got out of the country. As you probably know there are almost no cdma carriers out of the us so being able to connect to wifi and use voip is great if you want to keep in touch. And dont think it was because the carrier wants more money because Sprint or Verizon dont make the phone Palm does so it is up to them whether there will be wifi or not.
Next I would not pay $679.99 (Sprint) To upgrade for EvDO.
Plus This is probably the last new Palm OS phone besides the Treo 750 which might come out late this year to support EvDO Revision A. -
I have a love/hate relationship with my 650 and so far must stay with the Palm Operating System, until, say, Apple comes out with an Ipod-like smartphone based on linux. Till then, I will immediately buy any upgraded Treo of the "P" gender whenever it comes out, and as long as they give me more ram for programs, and more speed for the web. Wish someone would give me better customer information when I am receiving a call (too many John Smiths in my contacts). As for WiFi, not much good while on the go around the Non-Corporate American/ non-metropolitan sceene! Here in the ...burbs Wifi is a bit less useful.

Your uninformed comment: "THIS IS A PHONE ON A PHONE SERVICE. HOW COULD THEY MAKE MONEY WITH WI-FI BUILT IN. THAT WOULD DEFEAT THE PURPOSE OF HAVING A BUSINESS. IDIOTS."
1st let me say I am buying this phone the day it comes out so I'm not bashing it. The comment above is stupid. both carriers sell the 6700 which runs windows mobile and has evdo and wifi built in. It just makes sense to have both. If your goal is to provide your customer connectivity and communication it's a no brainer. Most smart phone users will pay for the data plan or else why have the phone in the first place. So why not give them an option for not consuming your bandwidth when they can access the net on someone else's pipeline. They can even use their own network so essentially the carrier is getting their money for at sometimes doing nothing. I like to be paid for doing nothing it's really my favorite thing FW -
Uhm, sorry... it is NOT just a 'phone on a phone service'. WiFi would save me one hell of a lot of connect fees.

I understand what you are saying in response to EVDO and a providers need to seel internet access as part of their business. But I do not see why the phone lack WiFi which would allow average joe at home to have his sell phone hooked securely to their home network so they can transfer files, surf the web, and snipe on their ebay auctions. When not at home this phone most likely would not use wifi to connect to the internet because wifi is not readily available for free at certain hotspots and EVDO via their provider would be more cost effective. I think these phone should have both, and heck it may already have WIFI but its not enabled when you buy the phone from a cell provider. I have a phone that had the wifi disabled, and guess what, a little download of the internet enabled it.
