"Give This Phone A Look - Don't Let The Low Ratings Influence Your Decision" on by ajtrek
Pros: Fast Downloads With EV-DO Technology - Great Feature Set
Cons: None That Are A Deal Breaker
Summary: For the record I have the Treo 775p in Midnight Blue. I’m posting here because this is where all the reviews are populating. I don’t know why CNET can’t figure out a way to link all reviews for this model regardless of the color scheme.
First, I’d like to comment on the low reviews given by others just because the Treo 755p didn’t present a “major” upgrade to the 700p feature-set. O.K. …everyone wants to see the latest and greatest technology on a device of this type (i.e. Wi-Fi, Full size SD Card; or whatever you can think of). I ask you… do you really need Wi-Fi just so you can run to the nearest hot-spot and surf the internet for free? I find it much more productive to use the EV-DO technology to surf the net; regardless of my location, assuming I had that much free time to do so (obviously, some do). As for the “full-size” SD Card…could that have anything to do with a Wi-Fi adapter…Hmmm?
The Treo 755p does offer some enhancements over 700p. I’ll not repeat them here...just look at CNET’s feature-set review of this model (also, no more external antenna). Maybe they aren’t earth shattering, but are the lack thereof enough to give the 755p a low rating? I don’t think so, for two reasons…
First, this is my first outing with a Palm based OS. Up to now I’ve used Windows Mobile (see my review of the Treo 700wx and you’ll see why I switched) therefore, I have no pre-expectations about this phone (versus the 700p) other than it do what it’s supposed to do. Second, consider this…Mercedes Benz (and no, I don’t drive one) may keep the same model (class) in play year over year with only a few enhancements (some of which are not noticeable unless you read the tech sheet). So, is a 2007 model of the same class with little or no enhancements; a lesser automobile compared to the 2006 model? I think you know the answer. Therefore, do us all a favor and stop down-grading a product (to an abysmal rating) based upon a feature-set; or lack thereof, that has little bearing on the total overall functionality of the device.
I’ve found the Treo 755p thus far to be a phone that deserves consideration, to be slightly more user-friendly than a Windows Mobile based product, not lacking in productivity features, good voice quality, feels good in my hand, and while not a “feather” in the weight category, it’s not a brick either. The BT connection (for hands-free) seems to be better than that of the 700wx. The 1.3 mega-pixel camera is decent (please keep in mind that the Treo 755p is a phone…not a camera). So, don’t expect pictures that will rival your Canon Rebel. I only hope that I don’t have to retract this rating in a few weeks due to some “major” system problem that manifests itself (a’la Treo 700wx)…because I used my free exchange with Sprint for this model.Updated

Thanks ajtrek- I am currently researching for a new sprint phone- time to upgrade to a PDA and was looking at the treo 755, which many of my friends recommend. I appreciate the thought that a new model doesn't have to be totally revamped to be worth a look AND actually be a good phone! Good lookin' out!

Why bother with a stylus at all? A real PDA/Phone should be single-hand operated.
