"Well Worth the T-Mobile Termination Fee"

    by larrymcj--2008 on October 16, 2006

    Pros: The best BlackBerry yet

    Cons: Non that I've found

Summary: You can find many very technical reviews on the 8703e, and most I've read give it the highest of marks in all areas. So rather than waste time saying all these things again, I'll take a different approach.

I have been through four BlackBerry phones in five years, and even though this one is basically the same as the 8700g I had with T-Mobile, as soon as Verizon Wireless came out with it, I gladly paid the $175 termination fee to move back to Verizon Wireless (it really is all about the network). I started with VZW using one of the old B&W BlackBerries, then the 7250 when it came out. When I saw the 7100 series at T-Mobile I jumped, moving eventually to the 8700g (same phone as the 8703e).

I have tried the Motorola Q, and if you're comparing it and the 8703e, it's an unfair comparison. The 8703e is by far the more solid, robust, easier to use, easier to see, (and much more) of the two. It functions better as a phone and functions far better in an email role. Using the 8703e with the Desktop Redirector allows it to sync flawlessly with Outlook, providing constant PUSH email anywhere you have coverage. With the Desktop Manager, a quick USB cable sync updates Contacts, Tasks, Notes, and Calendar from Outlook.

The Verizon EVDO network is much faster than what I experienced with T-Mobile, but it's also over twice as expensive as the T-Mobile data plan. If you're on a budget or pinching pennies...don't even think about VZW. I think they're the best, but they are not economical at all.

The BlackBerry 8703e is agreat phone on a solid network that give me better coverage (at least where I live) than any other wireless provider. RIM honestly "gets it" regarding convergence devices for BUSINESS and PROFESSIONAL users. If you're looking for something with a camera that excels at multimedia, don't bother looking at BlackBeries...get yourself a good camera and an iPod!
