"Physical keyboards are for desks, not pockets."

by bubblebathgirl on October 30, 2008

Pros: It's a basic business smartphone with traditional applications. While it gets the job done it doesn't inspire or impress. It tries to be elegant but falls short of the iPhone once again.

Cons: It lacks a touch screen. it has an outdated keyboard. Interface lacks the fluidity of the iPhone. Blackberry is bulky as usual and makes it inconvenient to pocket much like. Battery life is poor and the screen is small. Phone quality is average.

Summary: Blackberry is a respected name in smartphone devices as it used to be the traditional business smartphone. As the the iPhone now has a far better suite of applications and features, not to mention navigation, Blackberry is upping it feature set to try and compete. The problem with Blackberry, other then issues mentioned above and more, is that it simply has too many versions. Coming out with new products that don't really set themselves apart doesn't bring much excitement to a product.

Apple has a much more intelligent release strategy, and it piles more significant updates into it's devices in order to create more excitement, and a better product for us all.

bugsnext and itoughtsocrates. You both sound angry, it must be the pain of carry that heavy brick you've be carrying around so recently.

    Updated on Nov 2, 2008

Wow look at all the anger! LOL!!!

The iPhone is outselling all of the other wannabees (BlackBerry Bold included) because it is simply the best smartphone available.

No smartphone has yet to defeat the iPhone in a CNET prizefight.

That probably won't ever happen, not until the next iPhone comes out. Either way the Apple iPhone 3G has held "the belt" for longer then any other smartphone, and that's simply because ... it's the best :)

Even the worst review for this phone shouldn't rate a 1/2 star--this phone is a superstar. Your "review" is asinine. You've obviously never used this phone and just have an axe to grind. If you like your iPhone, great--no need to sh*t on everything else. It's pretty effed up to give 1/2 star reviews just to try to bring the average rating down as much as possible. Thus, you suck.

People like this should be kicked of cnet. PLEASE CNET TAKE DOWN USELESS BASHING THAT ARE NOT REVIEWS.

Typical biased bubblehead review. Once she locks onto a product, all else is automatically trash. And her's she's never even touched the product, let alone actually USED it before her "review".

Fangurlism, at its most venomous. Like the time how she said Bluray was going to be the ABSOLUTE KING of video during the BD/HD-DVD wars, when the only thing that BD won was perhaps a year or two of EXTRA LIFE. Advancements in download speeds now make HD downloads a viable dagger in BD's heart, particularly in this download world we live in...while on the silver disc front, old fart low-def DVD is still smokin' po' ol' BD sales.

Then there's was her fanatic love for the PS3...funny how that BRICK has turned out. Even being outsold by that dumb, stupid 360...in JAPAN of all places! Can we stick a fork in it NOW, BBG?

Great user review. I agree, the iPhone is a MUCH better smart phone. And yes, there's a reason why the iPhone keeps winning all of the Prize Fights ... maybe some of the responders here should bother seeing why ;)

I hope no one takes this review seriously. This review was done before the phone was even released so the only place she could have gotten her hands on one is from Roger's network. I doubt someone would have paid $500 for a phone they obviously think is horrible. The iphone and Bold can't be compared since they are directed at different markets. As many other have said, the bold is for business the iphone is a toy. If she should compare anything compare the new Blackberry Storm to the iphone. There are many things that the Bold can do that the iphone can't. Bluetooth A2P2 is one that the bold does that the iphone can't, so that means I can't use my nice bluetooth headsets to listen to my music. The screen isn't as big as the iphone but it was never meant to be. The html browser isn't as nice as the iphone but iphone can't push emails as fast as the bold. Compare entertainment phones to entertainment phones not to anything the dials a number.

considering blackberrry is coming out with a touch screen smartphone(blackberry storm) there is no point in comparing the bold and the iphone. The blackberry is aimed at business users and the iphone is aimed at multimedia junkies. Each have their own positives and negatives. So if you want to write a review make it an objective one and not subjective

I agree... I own both of them and there is no comparison in terms of usability and ease of use. Try quick-checking the weather or stocks or even youtube on the crackberry. and the applications for the iphone puts this thing to shame. RIM has to read the memo... UPDATE YOUR OS and stop using costly proprietary servers for businesses (especially small businesses). Jeez.. I wonder what took them so long to incorporate some multimedia functionality into their OS. Recognize the full potential of the market (not just segments). Businesses are -very quickly- turning to multimedia for communication -it's not about keyboards. The future is now!!

Geez! Does this guy work for Apple or what??? Eight GLOWING reviews and then his dismal one - not to mention he is dead wrong about the keyboard issue. I had an iPhone for about 6 months and I traded it in for a BB Curve. No comparison. BB is a MUCH more stable, practical business tool. The lack of a real keyboard is a severe drawback as the on-screen keyboard on the iPhone is very touchy (if you'll pardon the pun) and takes quite some time to adjust to. Even with time, the on-screen keyboard on the iPhone never really feels quite right. In my humble opinion, the iPhone will remain an entertainment device first and a business tool second. Again, in my humble opinion, the BB will remain the foremost business implement in the mobile phone arena, also for the foreseeable future.

Listen bubblebathbaby, you need to stop being biased since you apparently own an iphone and never even touched a blackberry before. Yea the iphone shines in web surfing and other features but the bold shines in multimedia and other aspects as well. Hopefully everyone votes that the bubblebathkid's review isn't helpful because a 1/2 star review isn't realistic.

If you have owned or used the product for a duration of time then please mention that ... no one wants to hear your *opinion* of what it "should have" or "could have" been!!
Why does CNEt allow such rambling posts under "User Reviews" is beyond me!

  • reply by: itoughtsocrates on October 30, 2008

all the cons you list are the exact same complaints with the iphone and im a iphone owner so this is not biased
