"Hate this phone!"
Pros: Full key board, light weight, Bluetooth, Email
Cons: Please see my list below :(
Summary: I have actually stopped people on the street if I see them carrying the Blackjack II and so far, 5 out of 7 people hated it. At first I thought it was me but I now know, I am not the only one. I do not like many things about the phone such as:
1.Speakerphone. It is hard to hear and you have to talk in the front of the phone and listen from the back of the phone to hear the other person.
2.Calendar feature. If you I have it set up as month view and click on a specific date to see what I have going on for that day when I click back it wont take me back to monthly view. Also, when I set up reminders for the calendar events. Say I set it to go off 15 mins before 10. It will go off 15 mins before 10 .I will have to click okay to have it stop ringing and then 5 mins later it will do it again and then once more. I thought it was a setting issue but it doesn?t happen on all my calendar events??
3. If you are on aim you have the option to have the phone vibrate when you receive an instant message. This option does not work. I tried bringing the phone into AT&T and have talked to Samsung. My phone is under warranty but neither will do anything about it because it is ?not a well known issue? If you have a blackjack II please complain to AT&T and Samsung so it becomes a ?well known issue? Also there is a delay in the instant messages. I timed it once and it was a 7 min delay from when the person sent me a message to when I actually received it.
4. I travel a lot and when I am at the airports, I like to see what is going on in the news. The Internet feature is great but the articles do not fit on the page properly. So I have to scroll to the right to finish a sentence then scroll back to the left and down to continue to read the article then it starts all over again with scrolling to the right.
5. Your headset and charger have the same outlet. So you cannot charge your phone while listening to music or talking on the phone using a headset.
6. The phone volume is on the side and does not lock when you lock the phone. In other words when my phone is in my purse the volume either goes up to where its way too loud or all the way down low to where I cant hear anything. Great!
7. I haven?t had too much problem with the battery. The only thing is that the alert that the battery is low goes off way too soon. My battery has been dying since 9/16/08 at 4pm and its 9/17/08 at 9am and the phone is still working fine. In between today and yesterday I have talked on the phone for 30+ mins, have done some texting, and have been on aim all morning.
8. You are able to watch TV and or movies on the phone. But I noticed that if you do the phone freezes. I have attempted to watch music videos off the AT&T link and half way through the video, my phone freezes. What?s the point of having this if it doesn?t work properly.
9. I hate and understand at the same time but I hate it when I am on an application such as google maps. I?m driving and my phone locks the application is no longer up and running (google) and it?s a pain to have to go back into the different screens to bring it back up. And even though it should be on the page that it was on before it takes a while to open it back up. This is to save battery life from what I am told.
10. Because the phone works off the network and has the sim card in it. If my phone goes off line (which it does at least 4 times a week) I have to re program my phone to not show my contacts from the sim card so it doesn?t show doubles.
11. Offline. When the network goes offline. I have to turn off my wireless capabilities and turn it back on again (which also sets # 10 to show doubles.) just so I can access the Internet or aim.
12. Changing the set up of the main screen is limited. They have a few options for you but all of them suck! I have a really cute background and most of the options cover the background and if it shows the background then you have to go into all screens to get into the application you want. There really is no win/win situation here. If there was a way to create your own Id be willing to pay just so I can have it the way I like. Another thing is the size of the applications and profiles. They are either way too big or way too small and unfortunately, there is only large or small.
12. Keys are too small. I love the full keyboard but they keys are too small. I am a fairly petite person and my fingers are a tad to big for the keys.
I hope that is it. I am sure there is more but these are the things that bug me the most about this phone. I do not recommend this phone to anyone. I have had it for 9 months and have not hated a phone as much as I do this one. I am willing to pay $400 for another phone by either switching carriers or getting something like the iphone or blackberry. But this time I will be smart and really do my research and go into the stores to check out the phone features and reviews. I hope this review helps you!

C'mon guys why would you even think of buying a samsung. Samsung phones are all junk. I own a Motorola q, and I think it is the best smartphone made. Atleast Motorola is an American company, unlike Samsung who is an Korean company!

As an owner of the blackjack II, this review seems accurate. I don't use some of the applications mentioned, but I do relate to the irritating home screen options, and I was very disappointed in the calender. After owning this phone for a few months, the media player has now quick working, which also caused me to lose ring tones and alert noises that came on the phone. I'm sure all smart phones have their issues, but I'm not a fan of this one.

I have all of these problems. I hate this phone. This review is both accurate and reasonable in my opinion. This phone is standard issue at my work, all of the sales people are okay with it and the engineers hate the hell out of it. Just don't settle for this piece horrible hardware.

This user's complaints about the phone were helpful to me, as were comments on it from other users who didn't all have these issues. I suspect that getting an entirely new Blackjack II would solve some of the issues that weren't just bad design. (Like: navigation issues may be bad design; early battery warnings may be an issue with the phone itself.)
But what I really enjoyed was that the "man" who, as a man, supposedly "know[s] how to figure things out," (apparently by embedding sarcasm in sexist commentary), still couldn't figure out that the substitution of question marks for apostrophes is a common formatting issue online. Not an aesthetic choice by the original user-reviewer. -
Thanks for elaborating that! I'm hating myself for being stuck with this phone for a while... I can't wait to drop it in a recycle bin - all that is good for.

I've never had any of the problems you have had. only problem i have had with the phone is the fact that it shuts off at least 6 times a hour, but i got they fixed. but I love this phone, best phone i've gotten in forever. ohhh and i agree with the guy below, what's up with the ?......But seriously everyone i know likes the phone.

My God, I don't think I have EVER seen someone complain so much about something in my ENTIRE life! Go and buy yourself another phone...so you can have your "cute" background...and shut up already! And how ANNOYING is using a "?" instead of a " ' "? I'll tell you...VERY! I have this phone, and it works perfectly fine. But then again, I am a man, so I know how to figure things out. But I can tell you something that does suck, and that is your grammar...it's horrendous! Which by the way means shockingly dreadful or horrible. Have a nice day sweetie.

This phone was rated #1 in consumer reports out of all pda phones... it was rated over all blackberrys and, of course, the i phone... so is this really a bad phone???
