  • "Slow and Unreliable"
    on by bryan-tim

Pros I have the blue phone and it looks really cool.
The keyboard was my first full keyboard, so I don't really have anything to compare it to, but it seems decent and everyone gets used to their own after a while I'm sure.
    It's ringtones aren't horrible.

Cons This phone is REALLY slow! It is disruptive when you are texting someone and you get a text because it takes a while to show you that you got a text, and it wont let you keep texting.
The music player is unreliable and slow.
    Bad battery life.

Summary I'm a teen who has this phone and although it is better than my last one,
[since that one didn't last more than a month due to internal problems which led to replacing it 4 or 5 times in less than 2 years (lg v5500)]
    it is not great.

    Its SLOW.

Try to get another phone if you can.

    on by goatmilk908

Pros Looks attractive, the battery life is pretty good, and it does all basic things.
I dropped this is water and i put it in rice and it works like nothing happened to it

    Cons No video camera!
Sometimes can be slow and annoying
when i am trying to send a text, and i recieve a text at the same time, it does not send and the message fails.
    Picture quality is bad

Summary it is good phone for teens, if you get it dont bother using the music player.

  • "I hate this phone with every fabric of my being"
    on by mommabear17

    Pros Attractive color, size.

Cons Cheaply made, awkward, call clarity not great, pocket dials all the time (even with the keyboard lock), shuts itself off frequently, notifications are goofy (will show the icon saying I have a new text then not show any texts as new).

Summary Most of my previous phones have been LG. At the time I got this phone, I had a blackberry for work (now an iPhone) but did not use it as a phone. Because I was really only going to use this as a phone and for occasional texting, I didn't want to pay for a phone, and I wanted to be able to walk away from a store with a phone that day (instead of ordering only). So this looked like it fit my needs and the price was right.

This is my first slider - all but my first cell phone were flip phones. I like the keyboard for texting. However, everything else about this phone I pretty much hate. It pocket dials from my purse all the time. Even when you have the keyboard locked, if you bump it the right way it does something or other. And if you have the keyboard locked, it is hard to answer the phone or read a text if you don't hit it exactly correct.

The phone is also cheaply made. I have dropped it on carpet and the back panel and battery pop out super easily. I am not rough on electronics, but everyone drops their phone sometimes. The LGs never had an issue.

Sometimes I will get a text and read it, but the phone will still show the icon on the front screen that there is an unread text. There is not. So I have to fiddle with it to make that go away.

Also, considering that I barely use it, the battery drains rather quickly.

I just can't emphasize enough how much I dislike this phone. I am going to go through my house this weekend to see if we still have my old phone, because I'd rather go back to that.

  • "THIS PHONE IS MORE TROUBLE THAN IT'S WORTH! DON'T BUY!"
    on by BigAl35540

Pros Big screen, full QWERTY keyboard for texting. Runs VZNavigator and Backup Assistant WITHOUT having to purchase or use Internet.

Cons Weird quirks! Alarm clock doesn't go off consistently. Phone just shuts off for no reason requiring removal of the battery to restart it! Music player layout is horrifically bad!

Summary BIG MISTAKE! Thought it was nice to have the bigger screen and the blue metallic color but this phone has turned out to be a disaster as far as reliability is concerned! The first problem noted was with the alarm clock. It doesn't go off! I found this happens because in the ringtone area there are TWO screens, one for the ringtone you can select and a box above this that keeps resetting itself to LIGHT ONLY! It should be on TONE! Why this box is even there is a good question! When setting an alarm, the idea is for it to make noise! Light Only...seriously?

Then there is the matter of the phone just shutting off and being unable to restart it. This happens FREQUENTLY! When this happens simply restarting the phone by pushing and holding the "End" button is not an option...nothing happens! Instead, you have to remove the plastic protective case Verizon gives you, (a big hassle, surprised I haven't broken it yet!), pull out the battery, wait 5-10 seconds and then put it back in. It then fires up like nothing ever happened! This lock up, or whatever it is, occurs randomly and you don't know the phone is in this mode until you take it off your belt and look at it. By that time, how many calls have you missed?

The music player in this phone is a MESS! The way it comes up should at least show you the albums or the artists you have but this thing comes up on THE FIRST SONG IN YOUR DIRECTORY...WHAT?! You have to go to OPTIONS to get that view! Then getting to the song or album you wish to play is a MAJOR HASSLE! Especially with 8 or 16GB of music loaded on a microSD drive! Why did they even bother with a music player if it's this poorly designed? If the music player is tried to be run over the Bluetooth, if it's not a stereo bluetooth headset, the music DOES NOT play through it at all, but comes out the dinky speaker on the back...WORTHLESS! Also you can't set MY MUSIC as a directional key shortcut directly. Go figure that one!

This phone's version of VZNavigator can be annoying as well. If you are used to putting addresses in FAVORITES and working from there, you're in for a surprise, this version doesn't want you to run it that way! That is buried way down the menu in FIND. It seems like this version is designed to push stuff at you, not do what you want it to do! I'm not interested in all that, I just want to put in the address where I intend to go and to save it for future use again. That's made nearly impossible with this version! VZNavigator DOES work with the bluetooth headset and you can hear the announcements much clearer than trying to hear the announcements on the speakerphone in a noisy cabin! This version does show the names of cross streets you are coming up on and also announces traffic incidents up ahead that might be in your way. Not real fond of the location marketing this version tries to do, would prefer just basic navigation please! Also, when trying to find a location or a business, so much other unrelated stuff comes up that it's two or three screens down before you find what you're looking for. This appears poorly designed as well!

Overall, this IS NOT a phone a tech savvy teenager could live with! It's hard enough for a computer technician to keep this phone running! It is not a reliable device, you must check it frequently for some kind of problem! Samsung ordinarily makes good products, but this one is unbelievably bad. The design is shaky to say the least! I WOULD NOT recommend this phone for anyone, it's far more hassle than it's worth! One wonders is Verizon fielding bad phones in this segment to force people to move up to a full smart phone with it's dinky screen and lame touchscreen? It sure seems that way! This is the second dud I've gotten from them in this intermediate area. They need to change that real soon! There are those of us who use a LAPTOP to surf the web with a real operating system and an easily seen screen. For us, a smart phone will never cut it!
