"Fails as a phone & doesn't do well at anything else"0.5 starson by redrox1
Pros: Fits in a pocket, was upgraded to Froyo 2.2, has a slide-out keyboard, good call quality (when able to make/answer a call), able to get Outlook email, supposedly can edit documents on it (i can't verify since i haven't used that function)
Cons: AMAZINGLY TERRIBLE LAG, FREEZES at the worst times, cannot dial/answer/hang up calls when you want, email doesn't refresh, screen orientation often wrong, dials other numbers while you're talking, even though it's 2.2 it can't get flash player 10.1
Summary: It seems to have a lot of features, but they don't work well or at all, so it's a big disappointment as a phone and a multimedia device. It's my first smartphone, but I'm going to bite the bullet and pay to get a different phone (maybe the EVO or Epic) because it's NOT working like i need it to and it would probably be worth spending the extra money to get rid of this frustration. If you're screaming at your phone, it's probably time to move on.
PHONE: it often takes too long before allowing me to answer a call, so i miss the call. sometimes it never rings at all and only announces that a new voicemail arrived, hours after the fact. it also often takes too long to allow me to hang up. and it often opens the dialpad while i'm talking and starts pressing random numbers. or if i have to press a number in an automated menu, it takes too long for me to be able to open the dialpad to do that and i have to listen to the whole menu again or get booted off. sometimes it just freezes period and no waiting or pressing of the end call/power off button will work, only removing the battery. if it won't work as a phone, it's not that smart.
CAMERA: no flash is a big issue, and it takes so long to open the camera that most shots are missed.
EMAIL: it won't refresh for days, even when i press the 'refresh' button. this has caused me problems at my job because i couldn't receive emails in a timely manner. this was the main reason i wanted to get a smartphone, email and internet, and it does this very poorly.
VIDEO: even after 2.2 update, it still can't get flash player 10.1, so another reason that i got this phone (to watch my shows at the gym) is a disappointment. trying to watch sprint tv on it is way too frustrating, it is constantly stopping the video to buffer.
GPS: is usually 2 blocks off from where i really am, so i can't use it to help find my car, and sometimes it has no idea where i am at all, being stuck on my previous location. i need to find addresses for work, so this is also frustrating.
DEVICE IN GENERAL: freezes up alot, even when it doesn't it takes too long to respond to buttons pushed, making me think it didn't register my touch so i repeat and then suddenly it does everything at once, causing problems. sometimes no keyboard appears on screen, requiring the slideout keyboard (like to look up a contact without scrolling through the entire list). orientation of the screen is often wrong, sometimes even upside-down, except when keyboard is slid out.
If it doesn't work as it should, they should stop selling this model. Now Virgin Mobile is offering it, too. Pity, if they had a better phone on offer, i'd switch to them!
