"Windows Mobile and Verizon make this unusable"2.0 starson by lionelhutz
Pros: Screen. Neat UI
Cons: Verizon has all of the features (GPS, etc) locked out. Google Maps won't work. Keyboard is horrible. Battery life is very short if you use Activesync. Typing is frustrating.
Summary: I really do not understand CNET's ranking scheme. This phone in no way deserves this rating. First of all, Verizon should be shamed (if not sued) for locking out features on phones that we pay for. They have the GPS on this phone locked out, so Google Maps and other location-based programs will not work. You are stuck paying $10 a month for VZ Navigator. Next, the Windows Mobile interface is just not intuitive. Something as simple as sending a text message takes several menus and screen taps. And since this phone has no keyboard, good luck trying to navigate through the menus without a stylus and without wanting to throw the phone out the window. I was also surprised at how small the battery is. Phones cannot defy physics, and a big screen + small battery = poor battery life. Apparently Samsung (like Apple) did not think the people would use Activesync or the other features of this phone, because doing so will severely limit your battery life. You will be lucky to make it through a long day without the low battery warning going off.
The sad fact of the matter is that Verizon's phone selection is limited, and they lock out all of the features of the phones they do have. So you are forced to buy a sub-par phone with the cool features all disabled. I know why they do it, but it sure is disappointing. AT&T has better phones, with the toys all unlocked, but you are stuck with AT&T's network - which is insufficient for a lot of us.
I wish Verizon could get RIM to sell them the best Blackberry's (Bold, new Curve) and I wish that Verizon would stop disabling GPS and other phone features. I bought this phone at full retail, so why is Verizon deciding what I can and cant use?
In conclusion, if you are new to Smartphones maybe you will tolerate, or even like this device. But for the Blackberry users out there, be warned. This phone's interface and battery life will drive you nuts.
