"Samsung SCH-A930"2.5 starson by Bustertb
Pros: Try the LG VX8300 First
Cons: Reception, Style
Summary: Okay I've had this phone a week now...well actually the first phone I got I had to return b/c of static.
I am using a Motorola H700 Bluetooth Headset with the phone. It synched up fine with the phone and seems to work well together.
I can use the voice activiation even with the headset, but sometimes it doesn't 'hear' as well. It hears numbers better than words/names it seems.
I have crappy reception. Only 1 bar. Sometimes while I've been online the EVDO has gone out.
My last phone was a Samsung and I loved it, that is why I went with this phone instead of the LG VX8300.
But my last phone was made of metal and felt sturdy. Was with T-Mobile and had excellent reception with that phone.
I definitely didn't get this phone for the style. It's a personal preference, but to me it looks like a pager. I prefer to not have to turn the phone sideways to read the display. Goofy. I think they were just trying to be different instead of practical.
I went online and downloaded ringtones and used third party software (Bitpim) to download to the phone. That was simple.
Syncing my music to the phone has been another story. I went on ebay and got a USB cable, which is for the A950 and the A930, for $5. $10 total including postage. (I think it's really cheap of Samsung to not include a USB cable or even a headset.) I have still not been able to get the music synched to the phone.
I purchased the cable, phone cover and I went ahead and got Bluetooth headset. I probably wouldn't have gotten the Bluetooth headset if a regular headset had come with the phone. My last phone had one and I just used it. Samsung is nickle and diming people.
The camera was better than I expected. Especially since it's only a 1.3mp. I was pleasantly suprised with the pics. Haven't tried the video recorder yet.
Glad the phone takes the Micro SD cards. That was another thing I bought for the phone. Just got a 512mg card for around $30.
The buttons and menu layout is good. The speaker phone works well. Nice and loud.
The battery life seems good, especially if you are using the other features which drain a battery. I just plug mine in each night. It's good for the Li on battery if you top it off.
I really wish the phone had an external antenna. My other phone had one and I got great reception on it. I don't mind the external antenna sticking out, esp. if it'll make the phone work better. This is my biggest complaint and one which you will not know how it'll work for you unless you just get the phone and try it out.
But if I had known this all beforehand I would have tried the LG VX8300 first. It has all the features of the A930 but is made of metal and has an external antenna.
If you think reception might be a problem for you then try the LG VX8300 before this phone.
It's an okay phone. Verizon makes it harder with their crappy OS and Samsung doesn't make it any easier by not including a kit with the phone.
I plan on buying a different phone as soon as one comes out that I would just die for, but this phone will do for now.
