"Good, but not great..."4.0 starson by PatrickTheGreat
Pros: Easy to sync w/ pc, easy e-mail setup, easy navigation, battery life, great download speeds, IE is far superior to the Palm Blazer browser for online info.
Cons: When you miss a call an alert is not present on the immediate screen, you have to check by clicking an icon. Typing the number "7" is a bit difficult b/c the "fn" button is right next to the "7"
Summary: The PDA functions for the Samsung, I think, are fantastic compared to Palm. I had the Treo 650 w/ Cingular before switching to Verizon and the Samsung. I will say that if you are looking for easy Phone functionality out of the Samsung, you may be disappointed. When I miss a call, I like to have a blaring "MISSED CALL" message on my phone, the samsung fails to do this. This is also the case when you have a voice mail. You must click an icon to see if you missed a call and/or have voice mail. Other than that, I have no complaints about the phone, but those are big in my book. I use the internet quite a bit for work and pleasure, and I prefer the PDA to a laptop for pure convenience purposes. Having the MS applications has made syncing documents and e-mail so much easier, which is what Microsoft counts on. Also, internet speeds and quality are much better on the samsung compared to palm, this may be the difference between Verizon and Cingular though, as I did not try out the Treo 650 w/ Verizon.
The Samsung also does something Palm fails to do, include the extras. An extra battery and stylus, stereo headphones if you choose to use it as an mp3 player (as the jack is not standard size like the Treo 650) which also doubles as a car headset, and outlook. Very satisfied so far, but some issues need to be fixed for the next release, and the optional camera version would be great too.
