"Just a great phone"on by nhergert
Pros Good battery life, nice features, good call quality, feels solid
Cons Camera could be better, but it is not what I use the phone for.
Summary I have owned five phones (MotoRAZR x2, MotoSLVR, Nokia N75, and the Samsung A7370 in the last two years. I tend to be pretty tough on them. I just purchased this A737 after my Nokia N75 broke. I also get annoyed quickly with phones that don’t really work as a phone. My Nokia 75 was the worst phone I have ever owned. This Samsung is the best phone I have had in a long time. It seems to be good at almost everything. It is quite small and light, yet still feels solid. The menus make sense and are responsive. The battery lasts me for 6 days without charging, and I have been playing a lot with the phone. I think that the call quality is great, I have not experienced the wavering volume as Cnet did. I have also found the internet browser to be much faster than on my N75. The things I use the most on this phone (besides calling people) are the alarms, witch there are 5 plus an auto on feature, and messaging. This is just a great phone with a host of features, not a multimedia device that can make calls. I also have two older Samsung phones, neither of them are less that 2 years old, and I am hoping for the same quality and life out of the A737.
Great phone, Small package, Good price.
Pros Small, intuitive menus, lots of features
Cons Horrible speaker, battery life,
Summary I am a basic phone user. This phone has a horrible sounding speaker, and when you actually turn on the speaker phone feature, it gets worse. Distortion, etc.
Don't try to talk in even a breeze, or while doing dishes, or ANY ambient noise at all. The other person will not be able to hear you. The microphone is poorly placed.
The battery life is below average, but even more concerning is the warning you get when it dies. It goes from full bar charge to dead VERY quickly.
I plan on returning the phone and trying something else. Also, a ton of dropped calls, but it might have been the wind we have had lately in CA.
Pros Large display screen, feels good in the hand, fairly easy navigation through programs, etc., sliding mechanism is convenient and attractive.
Cons Below average reception in drop-out areas, keys are small and difficult to dial.
Summary Overall, the phone is a good buy. It seems to be well engineered and easy to use. Battery life seems exceptional. In it's class, think it's number 1. If you have big hands and text a lot, maybe not your phone; although, the large display screen counter-attacks the rather small keys, it can be a little frustrating. Other than that, I've seen nothing better in it's class.
PS was going to buy Blackberry, until phone co. informed me a min. of $30 more a month just to use it.
Pros Dependable, easy to use
Cons No major flaws that I've noted in two years of use
Summary Rather than a 1 week or 1 month assessment, I've had the phone for two years, so I feel qualified to comment. I'm guessing it's out of production by now, so a review at this point is probably moot, but this has been a solid dependable phone for me. As much as anything, I offer my opinion as a counterpoint to the multitudes who make stupid complaints about a phone, like the person who sends a 1000 text messages a day, then complains about battery life, or the the person who sends the phone through the washing machine, then complains about durability. Many "technical" complaints are equally amusing. It's relevant, because I'm about to get a new phone, so i'm checking around trying to get some feedback at sites like this, only to realize, that you need to throw out about have the reviews on any given phone, because a lot of folks simply like to *****. They did little or no research, then bag on the manufacturer for not delivering the product they thought they were getting. Not to mind that it was probably free to begin with. Not to mind also, that some of these complainers are about as un-tech savvy as it gets, and probably have trouble using a landline, let alone a newer cell.:)
Pros Good voice quality. Can set recordings as ringtones. IMs are good. Light. Small.
Cons Freezes. Keys break with texting. Shuts down randomly.
Summary I am pretty patient with phones. It does not freeze everyday, but leaving the text inbox window for a long while seems to freeze it. During IMs you sometimes don't receive some of the IMs. It has shutdown on me randomly. And the plastic covering the keys are now breaking on me due to heavy texting. I have had this phone for a year so far. Other then that I have not had any problems, and despite the problems it's technology and this phone has not annoyed me enough to give a terrible review. :) If you want a small sleek cheap phone then this is for you!Oh and the battery life (like most) diminishes pretty quickly. Now I can get about 2 hours of talk time, and maybe 10 hours of heavy use(texting/gaming/IMing) which isn't too bad, but the talk time that it's at now is sad since you can't charge and talk because the phone overheats and cuts off the charge.
