"Disappointed! No English language option in Chinese 'AnyCall' version"
Pros: I don't know yet! I cannot use my phone because it is all in Chinese and I cannot turn it into English.
Cons: Absolutely NO support from Samsung! No English Language options
Summary: This phone was given to me as a gift from my father-in-law from China. It is the 'AnyCall' branded version of the phone. For some stupid reason it does not come with an option to convert it into English. This is the only electronic gadget I have bought / received from China that has absolutely no English language option. I called Samsung who said "We don't provide support for overseas purchased devices and that is that!". If anyone knows how to fix this please email me at piers888@gmail.com.
Apart from that the phone seems fine!Updated
In my first post I was furious because this phone had no option to change to English and Samsung refused to assist me because it was an overseas model. After trawling the internet for about a week and posting on multiple forums about my problem I somehow stumbled across a Rom Flashing software to convert it into English. This was about a year and a bit ago. I successfully coverted it into English and have been using and loving it since.
This is a truly great phone. Although it doesn't have a keyboard for typing the hand-writing recognition works brilliantly and picks up even my most careless cursive.
My main issue with the phone is the phone function itself. As a PDA this has no rival. My friends have Dopods and all manner of other chunky, terrible looking things that bring back memories of late 90's bricks. My i178 is a sleek, gorgeous looking phone. I get comments on it all the time. It syncs perfectly with my laptop Outlook and although it is rare, you can purchase plenty of peripherals on ebay.
By far the best aspect of this phone for me is the GPS. I purchased TomTom Navigator 6 Mobile and a bluetooth, solar/plug-in GPS receiver for ($75 on ebay for receiver). With almost no messing around with Baud Rates and Coms ports my TomTom was up in a flash and looking great on the phones huge screen. Touchscreen works flawlessly on it. Together with a $5 car mount from ebay, I've never been lost since!
All in all I would highly recommend this phone to someone wanting a classy, functional and light PDA with all the bells and whistles. If you are constantly typing emails and SMSs on your blackberry then the lack of a keyboard will probably get to you, otherwise, give it a shot!Updated
