Pros It's slim and navigation is easy.
Cons The speaker stopped working so ppl couldn't hear me but I could hear them. That happened TWICE. Then my camera broke. I am not rough with my phone either, just poor manufacturing I think.
Summary I would not buy this again and would not recommend it.
Pros Ease of use; lightweight slim design
Cons Completely incapable of performing the simple thing it is made for: Phone Calls
Summary The past 4 phones I've had have all been Samsung. I've always been completely satisfied by their ease of use and performance. The SLM, however was just abysmal.
Texting and internet features are very satisfying. Unfortunately, the SLM is not a cell phone.
I had to replace two SLM phones back to back for the exact same problem: The microphone fails constantly. I get complaints from others when I call them that they either cannot hear my voice at all, or they hear an intense crackling sound as if I'm standing near a blazing fire.
The speakers on both phones also had the same problem: they seem to enjoy creating their own volume. It'll jump up and down regardless of the volume set point.
DROPPED CALLS. I have never had a phone drop so many calls before. I've had very important phone calls literally just die with full signal strength multiple times and have found myself on the verge of running over my phone with my car.
This is an AT&T customer who has now had to replace his phone twice within a year. I've never dropped, injured, or abused my SGH-A747's and finally gave up after the second phone. The AT&T employee basically said to me "How could you have chosen that phone?!" After I came in to have it replaced the second time.
AT&T gave me a Motorola v9x as a replacement this time around.
Save yourself lots of pain and frustration. I'm not saying Samsung is a bad brand, because I'm still very impressed by their phones in general. This one, however, was just a huge mistake on their part.
Pros Solid build quality, good call clarity even in remote areas of Texas/LA
Cons speakerphone is a waste, certain text functions
Summary Had problems with LG CU400 and 515, so switched over to Samsung after having been a Nokia fan (still am but O/S is just too slow for me). I've had the phone for a month and am happy with call quality, battery life, and overall feature set. It connects seamlessly with my Jawbone every time and even came with a 512mb microSD card. After being w/Nokia and LG for so long, the menus take a little getting used to. I've tried to configure them similarly to my old phones. It also has 5 alarms which come in handy for me as I need several reminders throughout the day. If you've seen the movie "I am Legend" then you can appreciate this (Will has watch alarms going off throughout the day). Pics are adequate but the zoom function cannot be used in hi-res mode.
I have two gripes and I can live with them..others may not. The speakerphone is a joke. I don't use it but if I did, I'd return it. Second, I text quite often and it takes several steps to get a punctuation mark other than a period. This is annoying to me when I'm in a hurry.
Overall, very pleased and even got a rebate w/the purchase the first week it came out. Be sure to read customer reviews and don't rely solely on CNET reviews as they don't have most of these phones in hand for as long as we do.

Pros nice alarm.. thats it..
Cons horrible phone.. bought 3 of them for my family after much research, within a year I had replaced all 3 under warrantee and the 3rd one was replaced (FOUR!) times under warrenty. all due to microphone and speaker going out and camera failing
Summary I ultimately could not repalce them any more due to out of warrantee and now have fallen back to my old phones while awaiting for my 2 year contract to expire.. they all 3 work, but half the time the microphone does not work and person on the ether end of the call can't hear... then the camera fails with a Camera failed message... horrible, horrible POS...

Pros Sound quality and control usage, above average. Signal strength has been great. Battery life is better than advertised. Some users wrongly complain about no control of outside display; hold down the volume control 2 seconds, the display activates
Cons Music player interface could be better, though it works as designed. Photo quality is so-so. Microphone went bad and had to be fixed under warranty.
Summary If you don't need a smart phone and taking photos is not a priority, this is a great phone. I'll be sad when it wears out. It basically is a trouble free phone with a decent set of features It fits in the watch pocket of my Levi blue jeans which is so cool! No belt mounted case necessary...
