"Very good mobile for Roaming"
3.5 starson by jermsdawgPros: Good for keeping details etc
Cons: Signal tend to drop
Summary: The SX66 is good but there are things missing; 1. There is no way to select a given Bandwidth i.e. 1800/1900/850/900. Therefore if you are where there is more than one network and the other network's bandwidth is stronger, the phone tends to jump. To solve that problem one has to put the " Network Selection" and put it on Manual.
There is no way to turn the GPRS off. One has to put FLight mode on then off.
When trying to turn the mobile completely off, it never happens. If the battery is taken off and put back on, even if the battery is fully charged, the prompt message comes up and tells you to replace the battery.
For usability, the mobile is brilliant, the Processor is quick, colours are great. With the 9090 the slide to reveal the keyboard tends to get loose after much usage, to me the keyboard is difficult to understand especially when using the "SHIFT" or "FN" function. There is no notification onscreen to remind one if the "FN" button was pressed.
Sound Quality is good, screen alignment is great unlike the Treo which tends not to align properly. The mobile is hardy, mine have fell on concrete twice and no damage has occurred.
Overall an OK mobile to use. I hope the next generation will have upgrades.

More than once have I had to remove the battery and reseat the SIM card.

It won't detect my new home MIMO network, but I have to say that it's probably my wireless router by Netgear since my SX66 detected my old network and detects a wireless everywhere else.

However, I just signed up for T-mobile wireless access (in addition to my unlimited Cingular GPRS - don't you have to wonder what someone is thinking when they introduce a whole new high-tech Pocket PC that doesn't support their highest speed wireless network, albeit one that's slower than Verizon's. Course, you might wonder why there are instructions for tethering and why they would offer unlimited digital access and yet provide a service agreement that expressly bans tethering.)

It was great being able to surf at the Hyatt and at Starbucks, but, boy, was I dismayed when I couldn't connect to any of my POP3 servers. Seems that I have to figure out alternatives when I don't have to use GPRS. Although, on my first SX66 (I'm on my third), I was able connect - but then Bellsouth is my DSL provider.

It's also real frustrating to be connected to GPRS and have outbound messages moved into the draft box along the delivery of an email from an unidentified System Administrator (I assume that it must be a Bellsouth administrator)that advises me that the recipient's email address is invalid. Considering that these are either resplies to a received email or new emails with addresses selected from my Contacts file (which is from my notebook's Contacts file in Outlook).

Hey, has anyone noticed that it's difficult to synch with any address book in Outlook other than Contacts? Maybe it's my own ineptitude, but I don't know.

Well, let's get down to the most recent frustration. I purchased Motorola's "top of the line" bluetooth headset. It just didn't work. A Cingular store employee told me that she had just had another customer return his. Shem mentioned that Siemen's bluetooth headset supposedly works better, but Cingular doesn't carry it.

Siemen's advise was to buy the Siemen's headset as well, although I was told that there was a new ROM on the Internet. I did find it and loaded it on my second phone as a test prior to returning the phone. (I was returning the phone because of a physical defect.) It changed the look and feel, and I was just unhappy. Unfortunately, I didn't have a Bluetooth headset to test it with that day.

At any rate, I just got the new NXZen headset that was so highly touted by the New York Times.

It's difficult to use Voice Command. The VC button doesn't consistently activate Voice Command upon depressing it once. Sometimes it takes pushing the button two more times. And you had better be sure that you activated the headset first.

The phone froze up completely yesterday afternoon. Almost everyone has complained about low volume and terrible sound - although I hear people pretty well most of the time. The headset won't always pick up when there's an incoming call. The phone gets to the point where you can't even disconnect the headset and dial a new number.

Am I going to get a new phone? I don't know. The SX66 has a lot of neat features. Too bad it doesn't come preloaded with Acrobat. And I've discovered a host of websites that just don't display on the SX66 screen. And I've spent an hour or two trying to figure out if I can turn on JAVA. Maybe Midlets does it, but I don't think so.

I suppose that I will again get on the phone with Cingular support. You might think that they would make it real easy to figure out how to get Bellsouth emails.

Oh, I've been on Panera's network and obtained emails too, but I can't recall if it were the settings on my current device or on an earlier one. Or maybe Bellsouth just wants to force you to dial into their network (like they often do when I'm traveling - and after paying all of this money, who wants to pay 10 cents a minutes when you're outside of Bellsouth land while using a dialup modem?)
