"A very competitive solid performer smart phone"

    by lil-yankee on March 1, 2008

Pros: Multitasking, loads of features very portable

Cons: no so headphone jack, and not so much bullt in memory

Summary: After having spent one full week I have to say that i was quiet impressed by the ability of the P1, Sonyericsson's new smart phone. I updated from a P990 to which the P1 is the successor and was immediately welcoming the new profile. The phone is now 30 percent slimmer and packs even more features, improve user interface and a much better looking design. It now allows for 15 shortcuts in the desktop which elegantly hide beneath the 2.5 screen when you don't need them and come out with the press of a bottom. The today menu is now displayed in the welcome screen instead of being hidden in another menu. Now you could see your calendar appointments, your missed calls, and your notes in the welcome screen. You could also set a new email account within the same menu and when you no longer need it, it collapses and hides allowing for viewing of the background and a clearer display. New Features include update Wifi, 3.2 megapixel camera as opposed to 2.0 MP that used to sit in the P990, updated web browser which is now runs a version of opera which has manny features and that I found to be more responsive and with a lot of interesting features such as key chain, which remembers all of your passwords. The phone is also "VOIP" capable, this last one was an amazing unexpected feature. Now I was able to call my mother back in Europe for the low price of 0$ dollards, thats right. I had here downnload the Skype software in her computer and I was able to call the computer and talked for 3 hours (had to leave) with a very high quality. To get in in the phone you simple open the browser and in the home page is shortcut to free applications. There you could download Iskoope and open an account if you dont have one with skype or simply log in and talk with any of your pals anywhere in the world for the low price of free. Your could also download Blogger which enables the ability to post pictures in the internet and its also free. As usual this phone allows for Office documents reading and editing, exel, powerpoint viewing and PDF files also. it has a business scaner, has a dedicated camera for conference calling, and support for 3g networks. It has notes, task, and Rss reader. It also has a music player which is very simple and sounds very good or excellent if put in the phone department only. It also plays stored videos as well as videos on the web through the Play app that comes with the phone. It has FM,AM radio with 20 presets and a couple of more uniform apps that are not worth mentioning. The design is very slick I find, and is more impressive in when you see it in person. The phone is very very portable. A couple of the bottoms were dropped since the P990 and I think it was a very good decision to do so. They were handy in the P990 but also made an arsenic compromise that was not worth the use. When it comes to the key board, the subject becomes rather interesting. Its a hybrid keyboard which means that two letters share one same key. If you press one side it would trigger one letter and if you press the other side it would make that function as well, just with one key. I have read tons of negative reviews about this keyboard which I think is underrated. I wasn't able to achive 60 wpm like in my computer but I could do 20, this isnt' a sidekick. If you want to chat more talk less thats what you get, this phone i think is more for the talking and internet browsing. At the end, you would be pleased by the tremendous value of the phone as well as its impressive functionality. You would no doubt turn some heads, i have.
