"Amazing Phone" on by shawn015
Pros: great screen, wifi, navigation, the new screen format which is much easier to use, and almost everything else.
Cons: battery power, sometimes lag
Summary: In regard to all the other people that were looking forward for a good phone, this is deffinetly a must. I was also considering purchasing a blackberry curve, but as soon as i saw the shadow hitting the shelves, i just had to get it.
The phone is so much more apealing in person, especially the feel of the phone.it is much more of a better phone than a sidekick in regard to features and losing the complications of other smartphones. the new screen format is just so much easier and much fun at the same time. the screen is great even though a lot of the icons arent as crisp as they seem but its bright enough to please.
the wifi is great. and the comm manager is really something appreciated. you might be familiar with that feature from the Dash.
The camara isnt bad itself. people must realize that a phone is a phone, but having these features is really good enough. you cant have the job of a professional camara ona phone. all the features must be appreciated and very special thanks to tmobile and htc to produce such a device.
the device is very consumer friendly but the only thing that was really dissapointing was the battery life. it maybe a while for the battery to get acustomed to the charges but battery went for an average 18-20 hours for me or it maybe the fact that i use the phone constantly.
another thing to mention is that this is a smartphone so battery drainage should be expected running the massive amount of apps the phone features. what ever the case might be, i'll get back to you on the battery life soon. anywho, the battery life is fine and nothing much to be worried about, but i doubt the phone can be taken out on weekend trips or anything like that.
in conclusion, the phone is just enourmous on what it can do. packed full of features still waiting to be discovered on my part. deffinetly one of the best phones i had ever used and especially me upgrading from a sidekick. im much happier with the shadow than teh sidekick. such a great phone with such a low price tag is something amazing.
also, i have read upon people complaining about how bad the call quality is right after they have purchased the phone. the thing is that you have to make sure you have taken off the plastic cover over the screen. the thick plastic covers the ear speaker making it hard to hear the other person over the line.
T-mobile shadow users, enjoy! If you haven't gotten it yet you should. -
"I Gotta Admit..." on by boarding101
Pros: Too Many to List
Cons: One GIANT con
Summary: I gotta admit that even though I was expecting A LOT from this phone, It had more than I thought!
This is my first 'smartphone' and it seems almost like a standard cell phone because of the 'fun' interface instead of the typical 'buisness like' interface.
I also usually agree with Cnet's reviews of phones that I've had but with this one I DISagree with in a lot of ways!
REVIEW-
First off, I'm NOT going to complain about some hardware things the phone wasn't designed to have like a FULL QWERTY keyboard or touch screen, but I WILL complain about certain things the phone clearly should have but doesn't.
CALL QUALITY- Was good and VERY clear but was a TINY bit quite. Not "Speak up, I can't hear you...WHAT? Apple or #&$*Hole?" I could cleary hear the person and they were loud enough for me but some people like the ear piece to be blaring. The speaker phone was surprisingly also VERY good! The person on the other end sounded VERY GOOD and they said I did as well! Overall, Call quality was above average.
And yes, I DID remove the plastic covering which is a VERY common mistake that makes some people unhearable.
PROS-
Everything you've already read from other reviews but alsdo some others...
2 Mega Pixel CAMERA- The camera is VERY GOOD! Cnet's photo is just a bad example. All you have to do is adjust the settings and the camera is one of the best I've seen! Whites are whites, blacks are blacks and colors are colors - I've seen NO orangey effects since I changed the settings! Even though the camera does NOT have Auto-Focus, the pictures look about the same as the ones taken with my LG EnV that DOES have Auto-Focus.
CAMCORDER/VIDEO RECORDER- I read on another site a review from one of it's editors saying "The camercorder is highly unimpressive. The videos are jerky and grainy." Well, all I have to say about this guy is that his vision needs to be checked because his eye sight must be jerky and grainy whether he's watching a video or not! The videos are very SLIGHTLY grainy and not jerky either - when compared to my LG EnV, the video actually looks better on the 'Shadow' even though the LG EnV records in a higher resolution(I don't understand but oh well) Both of them record/play their videos smoothley with out jerkieness but the 'Shadow' just looks better even in full screen! The 'Shadow' has a max video recording resolution of 177x146 while the EnV has 320x(I think 280). Again, I'm not sure how it's possible how a lower resolution video can look better!
Also, the video recorder can record a single video until the available memory is used up with out being cut of at a certain time limit like some other phones. The audio's timing is in line with the video as well.
Remember: changing the camera/video settings will fix the default 'orangey effect')
The screen is FANTASTIC! Great resolution (QVGA which is the best out right now). Even though it only displays 65,000 colors instead of some other phones that display 262,000 colors, I honestly can NOT tell the difference!
LAG- The phone does take 2-3 seconds to open certain apps but not all of them. The internet in VERY slow over T-Mobiles EDGE service which isn't nearly as fast as other networks 3G service. The internet will run alot better if you hook it up to a Wi-Fi conection but the phone does NOT support T-Mobiles 'HotSpot@Home" service where you can talk at a HotSpot for free but it DOES have the ability to use Wi-Fi for internet as I mentioned as well as the 'My Favs' feature.
The accessories it comes with besides the charger are pretty nifty - There's a case(Not the best in my opinion so I got a different one but the included one might be good enough for most people), ear bud headphone that are also the hands free headset, a USB cable to link it to your computer and a weird adapter that I will mention in the CONS section.
The GIANT CON-
The ONLY jack for one of the many accessories is an odd shape that ONLY fits the ear bud headphones/hands free headset but NOT the USB cable or even the dand CHARGER!!! What the HECK!!! You have to use an adapter just to charge the phone?!?! What if you lose the aadapter?! You have to buy a new one JUST TO CHARGE THE BATTERY!!! One decent thing with the adapter is that you can charge the phone and have you headset plugged in at the same time but you still CAN'T CHARGE THE PHONE WITH OUT THE ADAPTER!!!
I would give it a perfect 10 if it wasn't for the STUPID adapter issue, but I instead give it an 8.5 (they only let you pick a solid number rating like 8 or nine instead of a number like 8.1/.2/.3 etc.)
If your getting a new phone with T-Mobile and your looking for a 'smartphone' or just a standard high end cell phone, this is a phone to DEFINITELY look into! -
"Great phone, Many features" on by Turok23
Pros: very appealing design, does almost everything, really gets the bang for the buck
Cons: battery life
Summary: The Shadow is a great phone. I had a Samsung t809 before which I loved and I needed a phone that had all the features of the t809 plus more. The camera takes great pictures and the display is beautiful. The videos I downloaded to the phone played at a very good quality. It's faster than other windows mobile phones I experienced which is a definite plus. The navigation button is fun to use especially when you're bored. When I read the other reviews about the call quality I was definetly shocked but thats what happens when you don't take off the screen protector that also covers the speaker. Trust me the call quality is good and the antennae picks up great signal. The internet is super fast when you connect it to wifi but it's a little slow when it's not connected but you can't blame the phone for that. The battery life is great when the phone is idle but when you actually use the phone its good for the whole day (from 5:30a.m. to around 11:30p.m.). I definetly recommend this phone to everyone it has everything.

"no battery life at all" on by jacseamit
Pros: beautiful design and interface
Cons: battery life
Summary: I loved using this phone, but had to charge it constantly. T-Mobile offered to send me a free backup battery, but really, it's a wireless device. I need the thing to work when I'm on trip away from an outlet. I reluctantly swaped it for the more utiliarian Curve, which I am learning to love, despite the annoying candy bar style (I hate having to lock the keyboard to avoid making accidental calls), but I wish the manufacturer would fix the flawed battery issue.

"East to use but the keyboard is wack" on by Raulbam
Pros: Very easy to use, great screen.
Cons: battery life not good, texting is a process
Summary: I have always had flip phones with tmobile and made this move due to my samsung t619 getting crushed in an accident, so looked at phones and decided to try it, at first its a pain but once you get used to it, its nice. easy phone to use, great screen.
