"Great phone, but black-burgundy version is even better." on by rcc2k9

    Pros: Wi-Fi Calling (UMA)
    Nice user interface
Great form factor - very pocketable.
Good set of OEM accessories included.

Cons: Keypad on the white-mint version is poorly lit.
    Processor should've been faster.

Summary: I have both the black-burgundy and the white-mint models. I find very hard to take my SIM out of the Shadow (2009) and back into my more advanced Pocket PC phone, because I've fallen in love with the pocketability of the Shadow.

The keypad on the white-mint model is poorly lit; this is not an issue with the black-burgundy version.

UI is nice. I like how they match the color scheme with the color of the phone's housing. The software is catered towards beginning users, and experienced users will get slighly annoyed by the help prompts during the first few days. Think MS Office Assistant without the actual paperclip. After a couple of days, the prompts fade out though.

Sound quality with Wi-Fi calling can get somewhat distorted if you are doing other stuff with applications on the phone. If you are just talking, sound quality is EXCELLENT!

The Shadow (2009) has an accelerometer, which is used by the Camera and the Photo album to rotate pictures according to how you hold the device. Third-party applications could make use of the accelerometer too - the Iris browser already does.

I like that all the essential accessories are included, and are of good quality. The wired headset has rich sound. The carrying case is well built. There is also the AC Charger, mini USB cable and an adapter to either use regular 3.5mm headphones, or use the included headset together with the AC Charger or data cable.

I've only spent three weeks with the Shadow 2009 and I can say, it's a keeper and one worth recommending.

    "Great phone" on by fbomb28

Pros: I love the shape/design of this phone, the nav wheel is unique and doesn't wear your fingers out like a trackball does, great call quality, external microSD card slot

Cons: web browsing is kind of awkward, some programs make the phone freeze if you don't close them correctly, can't change the system background color or how the programs display (list view not an option).

Summary: Overall I really like this phone; I've bought others afterward to see if I liked them better but keep switching back to this one. Web browsing is awkward but not impossible. Pro's outweigh the con's of this phone.

    "..........Not sure....." on by Keyaira04

    Pros: White:
Nice design, the white paint has blue within it --COOL!
    The wheel backlight is blue---COOL
Good phone quality, both hearing people and them hearing you

Cons: Speakphone is worst then 1st ed.: High seemed like med., but got no louder
    Not a good camera

    Summary: Hello!
I am a die hard Shawdow 1 fan. So after I had water damage to my first shadow, I was sad. I thought that I would be a big girl and get the Dash, but I hated it. I was excited when Shadow 2009 was coming out. I But I am not all that impressed so far. Everything Cnet said is very true.

The speakphone was the first thing I noticed, which seems like a downgrade from the 1st ed. I was not loud at all. I thought it was on a low level, but it was on high. However, calls came in and out clear.

I may turn this back in for a Pearl...God knows I dont want the BB, but I just may have to. If you have the 1st edition, no, there is no reason to upgrade.....Tell you more as more days pass...

"WORST PHONE OF MY LIFE" on by iiinara

Pros: decent pictures, nice white (front) design

Cons: gross gradients on back, the pull out keyboard is a grey color, making it look old and worn. I've had this phone for two years, and it sucks. 4/5 times, IT DOES NOT LET ME PICK UP MY CALLS. I can press the pick up button, but nothing happens. It takes for

Summary: When I got this phone, I was coming off of a blackberry pearl. THERE IS NO COMPARISON. I seriously HATE the phone, and there is just about no redeeming value in purchasing it. DO NOT BUY THIS PHONE.

"I am pleasantly surprised" on by silence82

Pros: Call quality, bluetooth, decent pictures for a 2MP camera, parital qwerty keypad is pretty roomy, pretty display, durable, can link many emails to phone, speed dial can be used as shortcuts, internet browsing (with edge), speakers, music player, ActiveSyn

Cons: programs don't always close when you exit them (which sometimes slows the phone down, but not too much), internet doesn't work as well when using wifi, watching a youtube video is a nightmare

Summary: I got this phone in June of last year, after I had to lost my beloved Samsung t349. I chose this phone because I wanted a smartphone, but I wasn't quite ready for the full keyboard and I definitely didn't want a touch screen phone.
After about a week I fell in love with this phone. The first thing I did was call everyone I knew and I was pleasantly surprised at how clear everyone sounded. The Windows Media player in the phone works beautifully, my only complaint about it is that you can't set up your own playlist. This thing works well with any bluetooth device you throw at it. You can always change the preset shortcuts if needed.
This phone has taken a good amount of abuse from me in the last 11 months and I have to say it is very resilient. The phone has been dropped several times on concrete, in puddles; things have fallen on it, liquids have spilled on it plenty of times; all within the 1st 6 months. This little trooper of a phone has survived and I have never had to replace it.
I work and go to school full-time and this phone has worked perfectly for me. Like I did with the Samsung phone, I do use the timer, scientific calculator and notepad (Microsoft Onenote) quite often. Unlike the Samsung phone, I had to download that specific calculator and the timer, and the downloads were pretty fast so that was one less headache to deal with.
This thing is pretty good with the internet, and pages load pretty quickly. Whenever you type a webpage, it will more than likely try to find the mobile version to it, but if not, it will load the who page. On the options menu from the internet, you get differnent ways on how to view the website. Syncing to the computer is a breeze, and once you disconnect from the computer, you're ready to go.
My major complaint is the wi-fi. It takes too long to connect. Once connected, the internet is slower (I know it's unusual, but it's true). I can't say I know what it was like use this phone in a hot spot area because I never needed to.
All in all, even with the few complaints I had about the shadow, I have to admit, I don't think I see myself replacing anytime soon.
