Pros Great service coverage in “local” calling area; nationwide talk plans; good customer service
Cons Late to deliver new phones to market; truly a regional carrier; special services are expensive
Summary I've been a customer for 8 years now, and when they implemented nationwide talk plans they got me for another 2 years. Prior to offering these plans, they were truly a midwest regional carrier. MN, IA, IL, WI, MO. If you left the area or hit pockets?...be ready for .69/minute roaming charges!
It always seems like they're the last carrier to market new phones with new features and have a very limited selection.
Their customer service has always done a good job of handling my concerns and - within their network region - there are an ample number of stores for support and repairs.
I travel outside of their local network 4 or 5 times a year and barely justify the nationwide call plan; to me, being able to carry my own phone with all of my appt's is critical, and nationwide enables it.
Their 'internet' service is coming along, but again, far behind what some other providers already offer.
In a nutshell, not cheap, no frills, but great coverage in the Midwest, and just acceptable nationwide plans.
Pros GREAT customer service, GREAT reception even in the middle of nowhere
Cons No EV-DO (yet, hopefully coming soon).
Summary I have bounced between every major carrier (except T Mobile, which doesn't work here) and I love the reception I get with US Cellular Customer service is excellent as well.
Only con is no EV-DO network. I hope one is coming soon, but it's not really a big deal for me.
Pros Excellent Call Quality
Great handset selection.

Cons None! I am totaly pleased!
Summary I live in a first floor apartment as well adn experience the same issue. I have tried many carriers, with same results. Once I did further research I found out that the only way to get full signal is to obtain a landline. As the phones are concerned I found out that US Cellular puts their phones through vigorous testing. If you research JD Powers and Associates, they ranked US Cellular #1 in Call Quality in the Central region. This has been awarded 9 consecutive times. I am a person who researches beyond my opinions. If I switch to at&t and Sprint I know that my call quality is going to be low. This is the most important to me. I have yet to call in to Customer Service, so I won't judge it. I did recieve a call to welcome me to US Cellular over 3 years ago. I have never heard of a carrier doing that. That says something about a company. I have been with US Cellular for 3 and half years and have been totaly pleased. The store location I visit is extremely friendly and compassionate. I know US Cellular will make it right if you keep an open mind. Afterall you catch more flies with honey than vinegar. (If you use words of kindness, people will do more for you. If you use words of discord, you will be neglected.)
Pros More minutes for your money.
Cons Terrible Customer Service 3 out of 5.Signal is bad.Insurance is horrible,& there cellphones are so old, always so so behind.Phones get Disconti. 2 or 3mo after they came out.
Summary I am canceling and pay the cancellation after more than 5yr service. I DO NOT RECOMMEND! I live on 1st Flr & at times we don't have signal at all. Get lots of drop calls. Lots of static. I had an Slider Nokia a while back and they wanted to give me a Razor instead. You don't get much additional services for your $$. Razor is much older and cheaper! You have to wait at times up to 20minutes just to speak to a rep. Or up to 45min just to cancel a line! Charge you $25per line if you don't pay the date you have to. now you have to get a easyedge or email internet package from $24.95-$40 package additional or you cannot get the phone! I think its ridiculous..At first it was super. But lately it has gotten Terrible, My bill lately has been getting higher and higher. Same usage...For what I pay I decided to go and get me an Iphone instead! With a different Carrier. So far 9 of my family members have moved to another Carrier for same issues..So do a research ppl.
Pros Rarely (if ever) do I have a dropped or missed call. I can't remember the last time I looked at my phone and didn't have service. By far the most-reliable mobile phone service I have experienced.
Cons US Cellular doesn't tend to have the latest and greatest phones (I was told by a sales-person that this is because they test their phones rigorously before deciding to support them...don't know if this is true or not).
Summary If you want reliable service, and phone service availability is most-important, US Cellular is the way to go.
