  • "Horrible! Major fail! Don't upgrade to 11; keep 10.7!"
    on by zawinul

Pros There must be some pros, given the positive reviews by many paid critics/reviewers, though I couldn't find any pros. If you look at the Apple message boards, or any computer-oriented message boards, iTunes 11 is overwhelmingly hated by customers.

Cons Just to name a few, U can no longer display duplicates, organize your music first by artist and then by year that artist's albums were released, or maximize the view of your music in a user-friendly format. And 11 hogs more computer resources.

Summary In short, don't "upgrade" [In quotes because it isn't a good upgrade!] to iTunes 11 if you value choice and user-friendliness. iTunes 11 is horrible! Period.

  • "Why did they kill Cover Flow?"
    on by mts098

    Pros "Up Next"
    iCloud

Cons They killed the most beautiful part of their UI.

Summary Maybe it's generational. I'm old enough to have started buying music as vinyl albums and the covers meant something. They became a single iconic stand-in for the music. Think about the Beatles crossing the street on Abbey Road. Think about the Clash's "London Calling" cover, which itself is an homage to Elvis' debut record cover. Even when CDs took over, the covers kept their symbolic power. Think about the baby in the pool on "Nevermind". Think about The Flaming Lips "Yoshimi..."

One of the greatest UI innovations iTunes introduced was their Cover Flow, which let you get just a little taste of the enjoyment of flipping through your crate of albums. Now with iTunes 11, it's dead. They've killed it. Now we are stuck with thumbnails, or at most a slightly larger image that has been altered to feel less physical and more ghost-y.

It took me a couple hours to get it working, but I downgraded back to 10.7. I'll hold out there as long as I can. Be warned: If you enjoy your album cover artwork DO NOT UPGRADE.

  • "An Okay Update; Not Amazing."
    on by Steeler_1019

    Pros - iTunes Store
    - "Up Next" Feature
    - New look
    - iCloud Integration

Cons Lack of Organization of TV Shows; Clumps entire series together, not able to view artwork for seasons
Unable to change artwork size of Music and TV show artwork
Plenty of noticeable bugs in drop down menus
    Downgrading seems impossible

Summary Overall, this update gave me a rather large, annoying and time consuming headache. I spent hours today trying to get my TV shows to be in separate seasons from the whole series, but to no avail. Even with the drop down feature, The artwork for each season doesn't appear. Only the first season's artwork will appear for me (i'm not sure if it's just me). I also tried to increase the size of the artwork for my music, and unfortunately, the same result occurred. Video Playlists for TV shows proved extremely difficult in correctly organizing with season artwork in view. I like the new look, but the lack of user customization and adjustability is very disappointing. After they took an extra month to "Get it Right", I honestly expected more from this software than what Apple delivered.

Also tried going back to Version 10.7... From what I've tried, It won't work, because iTunes 11 "upgrades" your library, and will only work on version 11.0 + from now on.

Expecting an upgrade in the future to at least FIX the bugs that are still noticeable... but I unfortunately don't see anything customizable coming back to iTunes anytime soon.

  • "looks amazing, that's the only good point."
    on by marievivian

Pros general outlooks, the UI, clean & shine

Cons the app's part(incl. itunes library and app store) suck!!!!!!!!!
can't see any description of "what's new" of an updated app.
    previously playlist looks better.

Summary The app's part is terrible!!!!!!!!!!!!! First of all, it's no longer possible to sort my apps in their category like before, only "iphone/touch""ipod""ipad". Why cancelled the category list??? It's very help to locate an app when i only remember which group it belongs to!!!

Then i'm not sure if everyone has the same problem: i can't see anywhere the description of "what's new" in app store.Only an update history list showing the date...

Last the music playing, i feel previously is much better than now.
It tries to do too much things, turns out too complicated and i lost the large album cover view in my playlist...

    Updated on Dec 3, 2012

i forgot to mention, in the new iTunes store, the upper left "foreword & back" arrows, previously if you press it down you can choose go back to which page, this little but super handy function is also missing in the version 11...

can't stand anymore, actually i already downgraded to iTunes version 10.7 :)

pls refer to this post if you'd like to downgrade:https://discussions.apple.com/message/20450883#20450883

  • "Unnecessary reformat"
    on by kitkat22008

Pros none, don't even care for the new look

Cons New format that I had to completely relearn, hid the sidebar. i also dislike that you cannot see what it on your iPod while it is connected, so you can't see if you managed to get the song on there or not.

Summary The new format hid the sidebar, so when I connected my iPod it no longer showed up on the side, and no longer seemed to let me manually add music. Luckily I found out that all you had to do was click show menu bar, then View, then Show Sidebar. I don't understand why they went and hid it. It's like they don't want to to manually add music. I suppose it's because often manually adding means it came from a source that wasn't iTunes and they don't like that.
