"numerous problems" on by ornery
Pros: nice looking logo
Cons: too numerous to mention in this small space
Summary: This was my second experience with Bitdefender. The first experience was bad. This one was worse. If I had first read the forum on the Bitdefender site rather than basing my decision on reviews in magazines, etc. I would not have purchased Bitdefender Internet Security 2008.
It is supposedly Vista compatible because it would never install correctly I don't know. The partial install couldn't be removed and it locks out the Registry (without providing an option) so System Restore was impossible. It can only be uninstalled with the Bitdefender "Uninstall Tool" which must be downloaded because it is not on the disc.
The product support is not as advertised. Phone support involves long waits as does online "Chat". It took a week to get a response to an email support request. -
"Everything's slowed down..." on by Chalkbel
Pros: It 'looks' at everything ... but takes it's time!
Cons: My boot-up now takes about 5 minutes
Summary: I'm using the trial version of BitDefender Antivirus 2008, but I don't think I dare keep it installed. Every day it seems to have altered something vital in my computer, and today I have spent over an hour just trying to get things back to normal. It seems to be very 'efficient' ('looks' at everything), but the long boot-up time and general slowness are a nuisance.
I'll keep trying, but my patience may well run out... -
"BEST BANG for your BUCK!" on by charliej1970
Pros: Very low memory usage. Some of the most up to date virus definitions. Ease of use. Nice upload and download utility bar.
Cons: Not Fancy looking but just a peeve.
Summary: I have been using different Anti-Virus programs for the past 15 years. I originally used McAfee products as it was the top of the line in the 90's. I then switched over to Norton. Over the last few years there has been so many different Antivirus products coming out that it has been difficult to choose from. After reading many reviews(which can be very misleading) I tried BitDefender and I have to say that I am very happy with it.
1)BitDefender uses much less memory than any of the Norton/Symantec products.
2)The virus definitions are updated on a regular basis.
I actually prefer BitDefender Internet Security which includes a bunch of additional utilities for a low price. You now get a 2 year subscription for 3 PCs instead of a 1 year like most of the others.
I used Trend Micro PC Internet Security last year and was very happy with it but it had some annoying pop ups on a regular basis. BitDefender is much better in this area and for the 2 year subscription, I could not pass it up! -
"Terrible-Slow and Crashed Outlook" on by mainer9
Pros: Thorough, checks everything
Cons: Slowed computer to a crawl
Booting up computer and checking email took forever
Crashed Outlook ExpressSummary: Installed an upgrade (free) to existing BD, caused Outlook Express to crash - could not send or receive email. Since I didn't install a new program (only upgrade) I didn't realize what caused Outlook crash, so spent much time with ISP techs, MS forums etc. tiring to resolve. Finally relented and hired computer expert who immed removed BD and installed ESET NOD. Resolved Outlook problem and what a HUGE difference - computer is so much faster, no problems at booting up, and no virus issues!! Computer hasnt been this fast since we first bought it 5 yrs ago. Do not buy Bit Defender -- go with ESET or another product that won't slow or crash your computer.
Just noticed another poster with Vista had mail crash. FYI - my computer is XP sp2, so crash not limited to Vista.

"A Good Program" on by dondabomb5
Pros: Automatic update, removes virus automatically, update from previous versions free.
Cons: Setting can be difficult to locate for a newbie
Summary: I'm not sure about the other opinions here but BitDefender is a good program. When I first upgraded to Vista I had some issue with the previous version. However after some time especially with this version, I had no problems. In fact, BitDefender allowed it's users of previous versions to update for free. How many companies will allow you to do that. It's fast on my system, Dell XPS 400(which is fast within itself) updates automatically, finds the virus and automatically removes them without waiting for a response from you. VERY good program and highly recommended and the price is VERY reasonable. I hope this helps.
